Daniel Sloss in Dark ★★★★

Politically incorrect humour that pokes fun at the hypocrisy of society.

DANIEL Sloss’ show might be called Dark but his comedy is far from your typical black humour.

His is an endearingly unabashed blend of arrogance, awkwardness and self-effacing anecdotes delivered with precision timing, perfectly-placed silence and the unfettered confidence of someone who proudly admits to being “called a c---” since he was five years old.

The award-winning and internationally-acclaimed Scotsman arrives on stage with all the usual swagger. He immediately gets the audience on side by poking fun at Aussie humour before issuing a warning that his show is likely to offend.

Nothing is off limits. From feminism and paedophilia to God and gun laws, Sloss skilfully weaves sensitive subject matter into a hilarious tapestry of politically incorrect and sexually inappropriate zingers. If Van Wilder and Stifler had a love child, Sloss would be it.

Though his material is at times crass, cringe-worthy and littered with profanity, the 25-year-old is astute beyond his years, with his humour intelligently and ironically calling out the hypocrisy of human nature.

That Sloss can use heartfelt humour to offer people a different perspective on the way they view the world, and do so while inducing side-splitting laughter — that is the true purpose and craft of comedy. To be an arrogant, albeit loveable, “dick” while doing it? Priceless.
