Comedy Festival 2017: Tessa Waters greets her guests at the door and takes them on a wild ride ★★★★

TESSA Waters’ high-energy, sequin dripping, in-your-face personality leads you through a laugh-a-minute variety show of sketch, mime and storytelling

Comics give the show away Vol.1

THE same warmth and high-five hyped energy Tess Waters gives each audience member for their personal greeting at the door, fuels this hilarious hour-long performance.

Channeling the sass and charm of iconic comedian Tina Fey, Tessa carries the same cheeky glint in her eyes throughout as she uses audience participation in the most inclusive way I’ve seen.

No one who gets on stage is picked on, and her clear love of performance and audience engagement reels us in.

Tessa Waters’ show Fully Sik is packed with personality.
Tessa Waters’ show Fully Sik is packed with personality.

Sometimes it’s the absurdity of the situation that I found myself laughing at during this sketch, meets mime, meets stand-up performance.

While feminism takes a strong lead in the show, the performance doesn’t rely on one theme or storyline to carry it. Instead it rolls like a variety show of bite-sized stretches.

It’s the over-the-top nature of her performance – think hip-thrusting dance moves and lessons on female genitalia — and her ability to take the mickey of herself — that establishes a lasting connection between her and her guests.

Greek Centre, Aphrodite’s Room, corner Lonsdale and Russell streets, until April 23
