Don't miss out on the headlines from Comedy Festival . Followed categories will be added to My News.
YOU can bank on North America’s DeAnne Smith.
Forget what’s written in the blurb in the festival guide, this show isn’t really about cash. But her energetic riffs on the drivers of life – money, sex and death – certainly pay off.
Once nominated for the Barry Award for best show in the festival, Smith loves every minute on stage, and the packed crowd cheers her on.
Her skill is on full display, even as some of the kinks of the show were being ironed out in the preview the Herald Sun saw. It’s warm, enjoyable and very, very solid humour.

COMPLETE GUIDE TO THE COMEDY FESTIVAL
With high energy and rapid-fire delivery – “Yes! Some of my jokes have a message!” she roared at one point – Smith’s hour of stand-up flies by.
The show includes a few adult concepts and words, but nothing too confronting for the early-evening timeslot.
The venue is great, but access is by a set of narrow fire escape stairs. Allow extra time if you need to use the lift.
