Calombaris enjoyed the fanboy moment: “Yeah it is. It reminds me when I’m being a prima donna that’s it all about food and joy.”
Night had a special guest in the audience at his show on Wednesday night: Khan Ong, semi-finalist of MasterChef in 2018.
“I couldn’t believe he was sitting in the front row. The closing part of my show is meant to be quite poignant and I ruined it by saying ‘Don’t leave, I need get a selfie with you’,” said Night.
“I was very unprofessional.”
Calombaris is recovering from an eye injury after a squash ball hit him in the eye.
“I was playing against my GAZI head chef, Ruben. It could have been a lot worse, I’m so lucky. I’ve got an artificial implant in this eye, which I need fixed. The pain was like a paper cut, it was like someone turning a fork in my eye,” said Calombaris. No laughing matter.
“I’ve gotta work out how I can get Ruben back.”
Night’s show, An Aesthetic, is running at ACMI until April 21.
