Supermodel gets hair makeover after Paris Fashion Week

It took five hours in the salon for this supermodel to turn her hair platinum blonde after Paris Fashion Week - and now she’s barely recognisable.

Gigi Hadid writes open letter to the media about her daughter

Supermodel Gigi Hadid has been spotted in New York with a new hair do, which may just be her boldest look yet.

Despite the 26-year-old already being blonde, the decision to go platinum made her almost unrecognisable as she walked through JFK Airport.

It comes not long after she walked the runway in Milan alongside her sister, fellow supermodel Bella Hadid, with bleached eyebrows during Fashion Month.

Hadid’s colourist Keith Shore, of the Sally Hershberger NoMad salon in New York City, told E! News that the latest process on her hair took five hours.

“Gigi is like a dark blonde, so it happens with a little bit more ease,” Shore said, but added care still had to be taken to not damage her locks.

“It’s a bleaching process, and it’s very layered and a bit of a complicated thing. Because of bleaching hair, you can’t overlap bleach on top of bleached hair really, or it will break.”

Last week, Hadid was spotted with bleached eyebrows on a balcony in Paris.

It came after she had walked the runway for Italian fashion label Versace during Milan Fashion Week with her sister, both sporting bleached eyebrows.

But they had both been photographed with their eyebrows back to normal since.

Hadid, who has a one-year-old daughter Khai, announced earlier this week she would donate her earnings from her autumn 2022 fashion shows to victims of conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine.

“Having a set Fashion Month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” Hadid, who is Palestinian, wrote on Instagram.

“We don’t have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something.

“Following in the footsteps of my friend @micarganaraz (Argentine model Mica Argañaraz), I am pledging to donate my earnings from the Fall 2022 shows to aid those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those experiencing the same in Palestine.

“Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the end of the day, innocent lives pay for war – not leaders.

“HANDS OFF UKRAINE. HANDS OFF PALESTINE. PEACE. PEACE. PEACE.”

Hadid copped criticism for comparing the conflicts, and so did Vogue when it reported the announcement on its own Instagram.

Social media users accused the messaging as “fanning the flames of antisemitism”.

The fashion magazine was subject to further backlash when it edited its caption to remove the mention of Palestine.

In response, Vogue added Palestine to the caption again and added a note that read: “Editor’s Note: We have updated this caption to accurately reflect Gigi Hadid’s statement on her donation.”

Hadid put out another statement addressing the issue, saying “a refugee crisis is a refugee crisis” and confirmed she would be donating to UNICEF in both Ukraine and Palestine.

“This is not anti-anything except anti-human suffering and anti-war,” she said. “If you believe any person or child, anywhere, born or growing up in one of the MANY places where there is a refugee crisis, don’t deserve this assistance, you are focused on the wrong part.

“These children don’t choose a side in politics – they are born and raised in this and deserve at the bare minimum, a decent life.

“While my dad is a Palestinian refugee who was able to make a life for himself in the United States after being born in Nazareth, there are currently over 5 million Palestinians living in refugee camps still.”
