Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are less popular than Prince Andrew in the US, poll finds

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s success in the US has taken a dive, a new poll reveals, as a royal commentator launched a scathing attack on the Duke.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity in the US has sunk to an all-time low and the couple is less popular than the disgraced Prince Andrew, according to a new poll.

The Sussexes have barely been away from the headlines over the past two months, following the release of their Netflix documentary and Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare.

The research, conducted by Redfield & Wilton on February 19, showed that the Duke was disliked by 42 per cent of Americans, compared to 32 per cent who said they liked him.

The net approval rating of -10 is a drop of three points from one month ago – and a staggering 48 per cent lower than in December, when his net approval stood at +38.

The Duchess is even less popular than her husband, with just 27 per cent of Americans saying they liked her, compared to 44 per cent who said they didn’t.

This is a drop of four points from one month ago, and down 40 points from the start of December, when she had a +23 approval rating.

And while Prince Andrew is still viewed negatively following his New York civil trial against his Aussie-based sex accuser Virginia Giuffre – which he settled out of court – his net approval rating sits at -2, with 26 per cent of Americans saying they like him compared to 28 per cent who do not.

The Newsweek figures will make grim reading for Prince Harry and Ms Markle, who last week became the target of US animated series South Park.

EXPERT SAYS HARRY ‘DIRTIEST’

A royal expert accused Prince Harry of monetising his family in “the nastiest, dirtiest, cheapest way”.

During an interview on UK program Jeremy Kyle Live, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop discussed the Duke of Sussex and his income.

Dr Dunlop claimed Prince Harry was making money in “the only way he knows how,” with the publication of his bombshell book, Spare.

Ms Schofield added: “He chose the nastiest, dirtiest, cheapest way to monetise his relationship with his family!”

Their comments come after it was reported that the Duke’s legal fight for police protection during visits to the UK has already cost taxpayers almost £300,000 ($A529,000).

Ms Schofield also claimed that Ms Markle started a “domino effect” which led to Prince Harry’s “vindictiveness” towards and “revenge” against his family – resulting in the duke selling embarrassing secrets to the highest bidder.

She told Sky News Australia: “I think it’s hard for anyone to deny that Meghan started burning bridges first.

“They say there is this sexism in blaming Meghan for everything that is happening but Meghan seems to be the domino effect, she blew off her family first.

“I don’t think it’s fair to call it sexist to look at Meghan Markle and think, ‘Hmm, are you the problem?’ when Harry never showed this kind of vindictiveness or revenge before.”

According to The Sun, Prince Harry must end his feud with the royals if he wants to attend his father King Charles’s coronation.

Liza Mirza Grotta, an etiquette expert and royal correspondent, told Express.co.uk: “As the world turns, it’s not all about Harry.

“His new room with a view must look very different from his silver-spooned life of privilege.

“If he is to make peace with his family, his war of words must end.

“The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace will continue without him, but those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.”

Meanwhile, Nick Ede, who claims to have been friends with Ms Markle, believes the Sussexes may have underestimated how far down on the Hollywood ‘pecking order’ she’d be.

Mr Ede, told the Express: “I think it’s quite interesting to have known her to now see what it’s like in LA for her. I’ve got lots of friends who live there, who know what their reputation is like and it’s changed a lot.”

He added: “I think the thing is that you forget that in Hollywood royalty isn’t somebody with a title. It’s JLo, it’s Sharon Stone, it’s Beyonce, it’s the Kardashians. That’s their royalty.

“And also the Obamas or Clintons. If you’ve been in office, apart from Trump, then you’re seen as being a top dog. I think they have underestimated that in many ways.”
