RAQUEL Welch was a show-stopper at the Costume Designers Guild Awards Saturday (Feb. 22) when she hit the red carpet in a sparkling black dress.
The 73-year-old was glimmering in the knee-length sequin frock as she posed for photos at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
She later took to the stage and discussed how one particular costume changed her life: the teeny animal-skin bikini in 1966’s One Million Years B.C.
“I owe a huge debt of gratitude and respect to the contributions costume designers have made to our industry,” Welch said, per Deadline.com.
“Let me put it this way: God was very good to me, but, well, it was the fabulous costume designers who knew exactly where and how to apply the frosting. Anyway, in my case, I could actually say the costume design really launched my whole career. It’s true. I wish I could say it was my performance, but there was not a lot of dialogue in One Million Years B.C. If the costume designer had not designed that artfully draped fur bikini, I would not be here. There would be no Raquel Welch.”
