Lady Farnham, 90, the Queen’s devoted lady-in-waiting, died four days after Christmas.

Adding to the Queen's heartache, another close friend, the Duchess of Grafton Ann Fortune FitzRoy, died at the start of December.

Lady Farnham was a close confidante of the Queen and had supported her since 1987 in her role as Lady of the Bedchamber.

According to The Sun, she rode alongside Her Majesty on the way to the Diamond Jubilee service in 2012 when Prince Philip was too ill to attend.

Lady Farnham also accompanied the couple on royal tours during her 44 years of service for the Queen.

QUEEN’S PLATINUM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

The Queen is to mark her Platinum Jubilee with a special nationwide pudding contest. In a very British Bake Off, the competition to find a pudding fit for Her Majesty was launched on Monday by up-market department store Fortnum and Mason.

Entries will be judged by an expert panel including TV baking queen Mary Berry, 86, and top chef Monica Galetti, 46.

According to The Sun the winning entry can be a steamed pudding, cake or any dessert considered to be innovative, tasty — and classy enough for royal palates.

It will also have to be simple enough to be recreated in kitchens around the country, as millions celebrate the jubilee in June.

“It’s a brilliant idea,” says 2011 Great British Bake Off winner Jo Wheatley, 52.

“Hopefully it will bring a sense of unity and give the country something wonderful to look forward to.

“Plus, baking gives us a real feel-good factor, which is why the Great British Bake Off is so popular.”

Former royal chef Darren McGrady, 59, who cooked for the Queen for 11 years, is also keen to see what the great British public will create for the competition.

He says: “Food brings us all together and it’s about time we had some sort of food dedicated to the Queen because of the incredible job she’s done for our country for 70 years.

“It’s an amazing idea for someone to come up with a dish or recipe.

“I’m really excited to see what it looks like.”

Chef McGrady also revealed to The Sun the Queen’s favourite ‘fast food’.

O’Grady worked in the royal kitchen for 15 years preparing meals for the Queen, Prince Harry, Prince William and Princess Diana during his time at Buckingham Palace.

He revealed that the Queen avoids fast food as a rule but there was one thing that she really enjoyed.

The Queen has a taste for hamburgers, only she orders hers without the bun and has her kitchen team prepare her a meat patty from scratch.

O’Grady said: “It always tickled me at Balmoral, we would make our own burgers. They would shoot deer, and we would do venison burgers.

“There’d be gorgeous cranberry … stuffed into them, but we never set buns out.”

And the Queen’s least favourite convenience food? Pizza. She never has it in the palace.
