Queen’s Jubilee: What Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton wore on day two of celebrations

The royals brought their fashion A-game to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving Service, but Kate and Meghan vied for tributes to Princess Diana.

Jubilee celebrations give people 'permission to celebrate the Commonwealth'

All eyes were on the Sussexes as Meghan Markle returned to royal life via the Queen’s Platium Jubilee Service of Thanksgiving with an understated fashion choice, but one containing a hidden message.

On Friday morning, the former Suits star and her husband Prince Harry attended the Platinum Jubilee Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, alongside the royal family.

Page Six reported that Markle, 40, was immaculately outfitted in a Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022 set of long off-white belted trench coat with a wool skirt and an organza shirt.

The Duchess of Sussex accessorised the outfit with Dior accessories including gloves, shoes and a matching wide-brimmed summer Dior hat designed by Stephen Jones.

Markle was said to be carrying the Lady Dior — a square purse favoured by her late mother-in-law. That bag was given to Diana in 1995 by French Prime Minister Jacques Chirac’s wife, Bernadette, and Diana was seen with it so often that Dior renamed the bag Lady Dior in her honour in 1996.

Choosing Dior couture was a subtle nod to Princess Diana, who was frequently featured in the French designer’s creations.

Friday’s service was a memorable reunion as Prince William and Middleton, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and more gathered to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.

Markle — making her first public appearance in the UK since the couple left their royal roles behind in 2020 — looked appeared to be unflappably elegant in her choice.

The service is also the first time that Harry and Meghan have publicly been seen with senior members of the royal family, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, since Commonwealth Day in March 2020. They joined Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their husbands in the second row.

Kate Middleton, 40, looked upbeat and joyfoul in a pale yellow dress with a crisscross waist — a custom piece designed by Emilia Wickstead — and a matching buttercup coloured hat with floral detail by Philip Treacy.

To offset her bright look, Middleton chose low key accessories, choosing Gianvito Rossi suede heels and a tan clutch.

She paid homage to the Queen by wearing a borrowed a pair of the monarch’s Bahrain Pearl drops.

Middleton previously wore the pearls to Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, with those jewels part of a wedding gift given to Elizabeth for her 1947 wedding to Philip.

The choice of accessory was also a tribute to Diana, who wore the pears to a banquet at Hampton Court Palace during a state visit from Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands.

On Thursday, to kick off the events, Middleton also borrowed a pair of sapphire drop earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana, paired with a matching necklace and her iconic engagement ring.

Princess Beatrice, joined by her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, wore a cheerful, belted blue crepe midi dress by Beulah London, adding a blue silk hat by Juliette Millinery, and pairing it with a sparkly blue-and-white Sophia Webster clutch that said “Wifey for Lifey.”

Meanwhile, her sister, Princess Eugenie, sported a bold orange dress by Emilia Wickstead featuring a high neck and cut-out back. She paired it with black slingback pumps from the same brand, a black fascinator and black YSL clutch.
