Queen Elizabeth appeared to be in tears as she watched her granddaughter’s touching tribute to Prince Philip at her Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen appeared to fight back tears as she watched her granddaughter’s touching tribute to Prince Philip at the Platinum Jubilee.

The monarch was treated to a spectacular night of performances on Sunday to mark her historic Platinum Jubilee, The Sun reports.

While the 96-year-old smiled and enjoyed much of the show, she had a noticeable sombre moment when her 18-year-old granddaughter Lady Louise drove Philip’s carriage around the arena.

Lady Louise, who is the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, took part in the grand finale of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The Queen’s eyes glistened with tears as she watched the procession, which had become a favourite pastime of her late husband, who died last year at the age of 99.

Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, represented Britain at several world and European carriage driving championships during his lifetime after he stopped playing polo.

It has been reported that Louise picked up the hobby from her late grandfather.

The star-studded event also featured performances from Dame Helen Mirren, who was dressed as Queen Elizabeth I, as well as Katherine Jenkins, who belted out rousing ballad Rule Britannia.

Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise also made an appearance but was slammed for “plugging” his new film.

Presenters Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham chatted to the Top Gun 2 star while hosting the live televised event on ITV.

Tom’s long-awaited film Top Gun: Maverick is hitting cinemas at the end of this month.

And he couldn’t resist promoting his new movie and was soon speaking of his upcoming film in detail.

“Every film I make is important, but this one, people have been asking for decades,” the Hollywood star explained.

“For decades I’ve been thinking ‘what could I do?’”

However, viewers were not impressed that Tom was using the moment to promote the sequel to the 1986 original.

One wrote: “So you think if #TomCruise didn’t have a big film release, would he have appeared here for #platinumjubilee??”

Another posted: “Thought it was the Queen’s Jubilee not an opportunity for Tom Cruise to promote himself.”
