The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex famously fell out over a pair of tights.
But during their walkabout to greet well wishers at Windsor Castle yesterday, they both donned seemingly identical hosiery, most likely as a mark of respect to the Queen, who thought bare legs was inappropriate for a Royal.
The glamorous wives wore simple black dresses, black tights and black court shoes when meeting the public in a 40 minute walkabout with their husbands, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex.
While they were all smiles yesterday, they famously clashed over whether Meghan’s bridesmaids, which included Princess Charlotte, should wear tights or not.
Kate thought they should, as she wanted to follow the Queen’s lead, while Meghan wanted them bare legged.
It was later reported in the Press that Meghan had made Kate cry over the incident.
But Meghan later claimed it was in fact the other way round and that Kate had made her cry and was angry that the Palace never corrected the story.
“She (Kate) was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she brought me flowers”, Meghan told TV host Oprah Winfrey in a bombshell interview screened around the world.
“What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do but that happened to me.”
The bridesmaids did not wear tights at the 2018 wedding.
The Princess of Wales has never given her side of the story.
But it wasn’t the end of the saga.
The tights debacle got another airing following Tom Bower’s release of his unofficial biography of the Duchess, called Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.
In it he claimed sources confirmed that it was indeed Meghan that made Kate cry after all.
The Sussexes have not commented on the book, which the author admitted did not include any interviews with friends of Meghan, leading to claims it was biased.
The retelling of the tights row in the book saw the mean hashtag #DuchessofTights, in reference to Kate, who went by the title Duchess of Cambridge at the time, trend on Twitter, with Meghan’s fans saying Kate should not have interfered and that the Duchess of Sussex should be able to choose how to dress her own bridesmaids.
