Princess Diana’s brother posts cryptic message after Harry and Meghan’s Netflix show

Prince Harry’s uncle, Earl Spencer, has posted on social media after the Sussexes Netflix series, prompting speculation about which nephew he supports.

"Fed to the wolves" Meghan Markle reveals royal family fallout

Princess Diana’s brother has shared a cryptic social media post in the aftermath of the Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries dropping.

Earl Charles Spencer shared a portrait of King Charles I on Instagram with the caption: “The King visited the house in the 1630s, as an honoured guest - at one banquet recorded as feasting on herons, peacocks, and even the humble potato”.

“He was also allowed the visit Althorp [House] several times in 1637, when being held prisoner at his palace of Holdenby - after losing the first English Civil War,” the post continued.

The post generated thousands of comments in response, with many royal fans suggesting Prince Harry’s uncle, who has not made any comments over the Netflix docuseries, has sided with him.

One royal fan said: “Very apt portrait and king to reflect on today”.

Another said: “you may be silent on the Netflix drama but after this post about a previous King Charles, might on day to say you are #TeamHarry - very sagacious to stay silent but let history speak for you.”

Earl Spencer is the younger brother of the late Princess Diana.

He regularly posts images of artefacts and paintings from Althorp House, which he owns and Spencer family for generations.

HARRY’S MISCARRIAGE CLAIM ABOUT MEGHAN STUN WORLD

Prince Harry blamed his wife Meghan’s miscarriage on the stress of the Daily Mail’s lawsuit, as her mum Doria Ragland praised her daughter following the loss for being “brave and courageous”.

The shocking claim was made in the last episode of the couple’s Netflix docuseries, with Meghan Markle revealing she had not been sleeping much and was stressed about her court battle with the Daily Mail.

At the time she was suing the British newspaper publisher for printing parts of a private letter she wrote to her father Thomas Markle. She won the case and a subsequent appeal.

At some points during the court case Ms Markle was communicating with her lawyer at 3am.

Harry said he believed his “wife suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did”.

Ms Markle said the miscarriage happened the day after moving into their new Santa Barbara home in 2020.

Her friend Abigail Spencer said she arrived to see the new home, to find Ms Markle in a lot of pain.

“She was holding Archie and she just fell to the ground,” she said.

“I was pregnant, I really wasn’t sleeping,” Ms Markle said. “The first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried.”

She then told how she made the decision to write about her miscarriage to help other people.

During part two of the Netflix show, personal footage was shown of the family playing in the garden with Archie and friends, kicking a ball and on a slippery water slide, as well as picking oranges and idyllic days out at the beach.

Later the controversial Oprah Winfrey interview is discussed, with the couple saying she reached out to them when they were at Kensington Palace, but the timing of the interview kept changing.

“Sitting down with Oprah was a reaction to what happened that year,” Prince Harry said. He said they had thought it would be a year of transition, but it was just a “beating”.

“The more distance that came between us having a smaller role with the institution and coming over here, the more of a vacuum was being built,” Ms Markle said.

She said people didn’t understand why they had left, suggesting that was a reason for them doing the interview.

However, the documentary then alleges that the bullying claims against Ms Markle were deliberately leaked by the Palace to coincide with the Oprah interview.

Prince Harry compared this with the treatment his mother experienced.

“I can’t think what my mum went through all those years ago by herself,” he said.

WORLD REACTS TO WILD CLAIMS

Prince Harry’s claim that the stress of the Daily Mail’s lawsuit was to blame for his wife’s miscarriage in 2020 has been described as contemptuous by royal commentators.

British public relations consultant and commentator Richard Fitzwilliam told News Corp, “That’s a brave, extraordinary claim to blame a newspaper for a miscarriage, how do you prove that?

“The Mail will have a lot to say about that and the Queen would be horrified at these wild claims. Where’s the introspection?

“Harry has always hated the media, but here’s hatred and just pure vindictiveness.”

“Saying that a newspaper is responsible for the death of an unborn child is an extraordinary allegation,” royal correspondent for the Daily Mirror Russell Myers told the UK’s Lorraine breakfast show.

“These bombshells are extraordinary, the … first episode endeared them to the public, but this, second one; the pact not to go down the same road of their parents and the palace briefing against them – the palace has come off worse for this. It’s a very personal attack.

“There’s very little introspection here.”

There was specific disdain over the couple’s description of Megxit crisis talks, including Prince William’s “screaming and shouting”.

“I would go as far to say that they are committing treason. This woman is delusional and she’s dragging Harry down with her,” Dan Wootton, who presents Dan Wootton Tonight Live, said.

Television presenter Nana Akua tweeted: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “are a disgrace to the country”.

Mr Myers noted the Prince of Wales would not take kindly to the documentary’s extensive references to Diana.

“William will have issues with that,” he said.

“The Sandringham summit was about sorting a deal for them to amicably leave the family … but Harry and Meghan were looking to leave for more than two years and they wanted out.

“Harry is in talks with TV executives around the world to do a series of interviews for the book -it’s not going to stop here.”

Commentator Piers Morgan said: “Prince Harry publicly trashing his brother William, branding his father King Charles a liar, and attacking his grandmother the late Queen for doing nothing. This is such a grotesque and sickening betrayal of his family.”

Questions have been raised about the evidence behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claims.
Questions have been raised about the evidence behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claims.

ITV Royal editor Chris Ship MP said on Good Morning Britain breakfast show: “It’s about blaming the press and institution and how William’s office was briefing against him (William) – where’s the evidence?”

Camilla Tominey, associate editor of the Daily Telegraph UK, said: “This is a blatant declaration of war against the monarchy, they really do delve into this idea of them and us.

“Saying he was terrified that William is screaming, this is a singular Sussexes’ narrative about their departure – it’s a very one sided version of events supported by their circle of friends.

“Goodness knows what Prince and Princess of Wales’s mental health is like over this and indeed if they‘re watching it at all.”

Dan Wootton, who presents Dan Wootton Tonight Live, said “I would go as far to say that they are committing treason. This woman is delusional and she’s dragging Harry down with her.’

One of the King’s former senior aides, Kristina Kyriacou, said: “There are more revelations, I feel their inferences are open ended and their narrative changes and I understand it’s cathartic but they say they left here because of media intrusion, now they say they just wanted to leave.

“What was it that Prince William and the king discussed? They say they wanted an apology but didn’t get an apology – for what?

“They say the palace runs deals with the media, we deal with the media in a fair way but with mistrust, we are there to protect the people we serve.

“Harry does have a deep distrust of the media. What’s their end game?

“If the palace is this deeply corrosive institution then give up your titles and live your lives anonymously, but now they say they want royal titles for their children.

“I know the King did everything possible to afford them the wedding he never ever had with his wife.”

Stephen Glover, a columnist for the Daily Mail, wrote: “When the ridiculous moaning of the shallow Sussexes is long forgotten, the monarchy will still endure”.

Former politician and friend of the late Queen Gyles Breandreth said: “There’s nothing new in this, when Charles was born the press wanted the Queen to show him off, she, too, was upset, she wanted time alone with her son, but the Queen, being the Queen, stayed quiet and got on with it.

“There’s a carol service hosted by Kate (Princess of Wales) today and life goes on, they won’t comment on this family drama and the royal story goes on.”
