Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be awarded for their “moral courage” by the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights organisation just days after Prince William and Catherine land in the US.
The Sussexes have been named as Ripple Of Hope Award laureates by the prestigious organisation for the work they do through their Archewell Foundation.
The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex are being lauded for their work on racial justice, mental health and causes that make a positive social impact.
The California-based pair join a host of high-profile figures who have won the award including former US presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, US President Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris.
The organisers said Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were chosen because they have “demonstrated a lifelong commitment to building strong and equitable communities, advancing the global dialogue around mental health, and advocating for a better world - both on and offline”.
The Ripple of Hope Award Gala will be held in New York City on December 6, with the Sussexes honoured alongside Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Just days before, on December 2, Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales will be in neighbouring Boston at the 2022 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Dorchester.
Meanwhile, the second Earthshot Prize awards ceremony is set to be held in Boston in December, after the inaugural event at London’s Alexandra Palace last year.
The Earthshot Prize was founded by Prince William and in July this year the project became an independent charity.
Prince William previously said both he and the Princess of Wales are “so excited” to travel to Boston.
HARRY’S MEMOIR ‘MAY NEVER SEE LIGHT OF DAY’
Prince Harry’s tell-all memoir will “never see the light of day” because if it is published there will be “no way back” to royal life for the Duke of Sussex.
This is the claim of royal author and former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair, Tina Brown.
Brown, author of The Diana Chronicles and The Palace Papers, told The Telegraph: “They are now in this bind, where they’ve taken all this money and Harry has made this book deal where he’s supposed to spill everything about his horrible life as a royal, but now he’s actually tortured about it because he understands there is no way back if he does it,” she said.
“If the book continues, I don’t think there is any way for Harry to return,” revealed the former Tatler editor. “So my view has always been that the book won’t see the light of day.”
Brown, whose journalistic instincts pushed her to the top of her game, was one of the last people to see Princess Diana alive in 1997, said she thinks Harry’s mum would have wanted him to find his way back into the family.
The memoir is apparently scheduled for a Northern Hemisphere autumn release but the Duke of Sussex, who has penned his royal recollections as part of a three book deal, allegedly requested to make some alterations following the Queen’s death and his father’s ascension to the throne.
There has been speculation about what the rewrites involve, including a new chapter that will deal with his grandmother’s death.
The Mail on Sunday had previously revealed that publishers Penguin Random House had asked Harry to tone down the focus on mental health issues.
Penguin Random House described the book as “an intimate and heartfelt memoir”, and “an honest and captivating personal portrait”.
Brown recently addressed rumours that suggested Harry and Meghan Markle were house hunting for more lavish accommodations.
“In Montecito, where they live, their $14 million mansion is a humble cottage compared to what these other people have.
“At some point it might be more than a new house she’s looking for. Elon Musk is still single, that’s all I have to say.”
