Prince Harry had a “violent outburst” while attending a wedding with Meghan Markle early in their relationship, which his friends blamed on the “suspicious” Hollywood actress.
The insights have been published in a new excerpt of biographer Tom Bower’s book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, which delves into various aspects of the pair’s relationship and what led to them ditching their royal duties.
Bower claims that the outburst came after Harry saw a photographer hiding in the bushes near their villa in Jamaica, where they were staying for the wedding of former schoolmate Tom “Skippy” Inskip in March 2017.
In the book, Bower wrote that Harry “became incandescent” at the wedding party, with many of his “closest friends” among the 40 guests blaming Markle for a violent outburst at the Round Hill Hotel in Montego Bay.
It was not the first time paparazzi had violated his privacy, and Bower wrote that his friends found his reaction surprising, adding their “suspicions” of Markle increased after witnessing the change in Harry.
“Secluded in the resort’s most isolated villa, Harry spotted a photographer in the bushes. He became incandescent,” Bower wrote in the extract, published in the Times.
“Harry’s friends were puzzled by his violent outburst considering the frequency of similar previous incidents in his life.”
Their relationship was made public just a few months prior, and the wedding was one of the first important events they attended as a couple, Bower said.
The biographer also wrote how a “woke” Meghan Markle clashed with Prince Harry’s mates from the beginning and was later convinced by her entourage that she would be as beloved as the late Princess Diana
Prince Harry’s closest friends also clashed with Markle’s strict views, concluding she had no sense of humour, the book claimed.
The Prince invited 16 friends, mostly school mates and their partners, for a shooting weekend at Sandringham in 2016, shortly after news of their relationship broke.
“He (Harry) had not anticipated Meghan’s reaction. Their jokes, involving sexism, feminism and transgender people, ricocheted around the living rooms and dining rooms,” Bower wrote.
“Without hesitation, Meghan challenged every guest whose conversation contravened her values.
“According to Harry’s friends, again and again she reprimanded them about the slightest inappropriate nuance. Nobody was exempt.”
Bower wrote how some friends expressed concerns about Markle’s “wokery”.
“Meghan was a dampener on the party, they concluded. She lacked any sense of humour,” Bower wrote.
“Driving home after Sunday lunch, the text pinged between the cars: ‘OMG, what about HER?’ said one. ‘Harry must be f---ing nuts’.”
Bower also wrote about her “princessy” behaviour at a wedding of Prince Harry’s close friends.
An excerpt from the book, published The Times of London, revealed the breakdown of the Royal Family began after Prince Charles confronted his son, Prince Harry, about Markle’s estranged father’s TV appearances, where he was critical of the Royals.
According to the excerpt, Charles “berated” Prince Harry and called on him to end it: “Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop”.
Markle claimed she did not know how to contact her father, instead of the truth which was that they were not on speaking terms, Bower wrote.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were extremely defensive when Queen Elizabeth requested Markle fly to Mexico to speak with her father, Thomas, which led to Prince Harry starting to “sympathise with her rejection of the palace’s deference and hierarchy”.
Isolation ensued and the couple began to cop flak from British tabloids for their actions.
Markle soon began to begrudge any comparisons with her sister-in-law Kate Middleton, and started lashing out at critics and blamed the palace for not defending her.
Tensions rose when she announced at Princess Eugenie’s wedding that she was pregnant, the book revealed.
During a tour of Australia, the Sussexes received a Princess Diana-style greeting. Bower claims this led them to believe the Duchess could pick up where Harry’s mum left off in gaining goodwill from the public.
According to the book, the couple surrounded themselves with Hollywood insiders who assured them they could be as popular as the late princess.
In response to the couple’s actions, the Palace set up The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but it was a charity run by trustees, which Meghan was apparently unimpressed with.
In late 2019, Megxit dominated headlines when the couple announced they were moving to North America.
