Prince Harry had private talks with his family about his upcoming tell-all book but didn’t need the queen’s permission to write the “intimate and heartfelt” memoir.
A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex confirmed that the royal recently engaged in a private discussion with his family about the planned book, according to the BBC.
But it wasn’t necessary for the 36-year-old to seek approval from his grandmother, the spokesperson added.
On Wednesday, Prince Charles and Camilla appeared in high spirits as they visited The Burton at Bideford in Devon to celebrate the art gallery’s 70th anniversary - just one day after Harry announced he was writing a tell-all about royal life.
The Prince of Wales, 72, and the Duchess of Cornwall, who turned 74 on Saturday, were seen greeting well-wishers as they arrived to view an exhibition of archive photographs by local photographer James Ravilious from the Beaford Archives on the final day of their tour of the South West. The pair smiled and laughed as Charles swigged a pint of Bayes Topsail next to author Sir Michael Morpurgo during a visit to the Duke of York Public House in Devon.
On Tuesday, Harry announced he is writing an “intimate and heartfelt” memoir about royal family life, signing a deal with a US publisher for release in 2022.
“Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him,” publisher Random House said in a statement.
“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the front lines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”

Harry said he was “writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become”.
“I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story — the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned — I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think,” the Duke of Sussex said.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”
According to Page Six, Harry has been working on the project with ghostwriter J. R. Moehringer for the past year.
Mr Moehringer, a Pulitzer-winner, has previously written memoirs for tennis legend Andre Agassi and Nike co-founder, Phil Knight, as well as his own autobiography, “The Tender Bar,” which is currently being made into a movie by George Clooney.
It’s understood the Duke of Sussex will get at least $A27 million for his the book.
Harry said all proceeds would be donated to charity, but it’s unclear whether he will keep the multimillion-dollar advance, according to reports.
It’s unclear whether Britain’s senior royals, including the reigning monarch, will receive an advanced copy of the book before it’s released.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the matter, saying: “Any clarification about the book would be a question for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”, according to PEOPLE.
Meanwhile, one of Harry’s most outspoken critics has branded his upcoming memoir as a “f***ing joke”.
Minutes after the announced that Harry is penning a tell-all tome, former TV presenter Piers Morgan tweeted: “You’ve got to be f***ing joking?????”
“Ready to tell his story? Prince Privacy hasn’t stopped yapping, whining & trashing his family all bloody year,” Morgan added.
The book announcement came four months after Harry and wife Meghan Markle sat down for a bombshell TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.
In the Emmy-nominated tell-all, Meghan publicly criticised the royal family, revealing she had experienced serious mental health issues and was denied support. Speaking to Winfrey, Harry opened up about tensions with his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William, over his decision to step back from his royal duties.
“There is a lot to work through there,” Harry said at the time.
“I feel really let down. He’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like. And Archie (Harry and Meghan’s son) is his grandson. I will always love him, but there is a lot of hurt that has happened.”
Harry told Winfrey that he felt trapped by royal life and that his family cut off him financially and took away his security.
“I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped,” Harry said. “My father and my brother, they are trapped.”
Last month, Meghan published a children’s book titled The Bench also through Random House.
Harry’s tell-all memoir will be published in print and digital in the US. Transworld, an imprint of Penguin Random House UK, will publish the book in the United Kingdom, with additional publishing territories to be announced at a later date.
