SHE’S hailed as one of the most stylish women in the world, so when Olivia Palermo announced her engagement, gown predictions flew in from left, right and centre.
The 28-year-old married German model Johannes Huebl on the weekend, but rather than elaborate Vera Wang, Palermo opted for a shocking but rather chic sweater and shorts combo.
“The fashion guru created the look for her special day by styling a simple cream cashmere sweater with scattered ostrich feathers and chic white shorts with a full tulle skirt overlay that cinched at the waist in layers of satin and silk and featured a high slit in the front with floral details along the hem,” her blog said of the outfit.
The New Yorker teamed the look with a low-key ponytail and minimum-fuss makeup.
Olivia is not the first celebrity bride to wear an unorthodox ensemble on her big day - here are some other celebrity brides who’ve shocked with their choices:
Last year, 90210 actor Shenae Grimes bucked the white trend by marrying her British beau Josh Beech wearing a black chiffon Vera Wang creation, normally a taboo hue.
Actor Julianne Moore famously tied the knot in 2003 with long-term love Bart Freundlich in a rather drab lilac Prada gown.
Keira Knightley recycled a blush pink tule Rodarte frock to her 2013 wedding to James Righton in the South Of France. The Brit actor had worn the dress a number of times before the nuptials and has even worn it again after her wedding, most recently in December to a charity gala.
Japanese artist Yoko Ono married John Lennon in 1969 in Gibraltar wearing a short miniskirt, knee-high socks and sunglasses.
In 1989 Emma Thompson donnedthis shocker for her marriage to Kenneth Branagh — a dress about as far from traditional as a bride can get. Check out the matching shoes!
Pamela Anderson wore a skimpy white string bikini for her wedding to Kid Rock in 2006. The couple divorced later that year.
Gwen Stefani shocked in a dip-dye pink gown, taking the blush pink trend one step further during her 2002 wedding to Gavin Rossdale.
Others celebrities to opt for pink wedding gowns include Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, Jenna Dewan and Katie Price.
