Nicki Minaj refused to get Covid vaccine to attend 2021 Met Gala

Nicki Minaj snubbed an invite to the Met Gala to avoid getting the Covid jab, before revealing a bizarre story about her “cousin’s friend’s” side-effects.

Met Gala 2021: Best looks

US rapper Nicki Minaj says she refused to get the Covid-19 vaccine in order to attend today’s Met Gala.

The coveted fashion event, which was established in 1948, is currently underway in New York at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art, with the creme de la creme of showbiz on the ultra-exclusive guest list.

But Minaj has taken to Twitter to declare she won’t be attending despite receiving an invitation, revealing guests were required to get the jab.

In a flurry of further tweets, the 38-year-old Super Bass singer also revealed her “cousin’s friend” got the vaccine and “his testicles became swollen”.

She said the man was weeks away from getting married and his soon-to-be wife cancelled the wedding as a result of the claimed side-effect.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied,” Minaj added.

As expected, Minaj’s stance has been brutally mocked on social media.

Minaj finished by asking her 23 million Twitter followers “which vaccine would you recommend?”.

The singer conceded she would likely get the vaccine eventually so she could go on tour, but only after she’d done more research.

“A lot of countries won’t let ppl work w/o (without) the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine,” Minaj added in a separate tweet. “They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc.”

Celebrities are just beginning to arrive on the Met red carpet, with US actress Keke Palmer hosting coverage via Vogue’s exclusive live stream.

The costume gala, which is celebrating an all-American theme this year, was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event which raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and is one of the leading sources of funding with contributions anticipated to have surpassed $270 million in total after the 2019 event.
