MOVE over Zara, TopShop and H&M. South Africa’s MRP is coming to Australia.

The battle for the all-important style dollar is heating up again, with the arrival of a new kid on the fashion block.

MRP is one of South Africa’s most popular low-priced fashion retailers and is coming to Australia with its first store to open at Melbourne Central in October.

With over 440 stores, mainly in southern Africa, and a successful online store which ships worldwide, MRP bosses said the time was right to extend the affordable fashion brand to Australia.

“As a business based in the southern hemisphere, we’re able to offer Australians a relevant, seasonal and trend-led assortment,” MRP chief executive Stuart Bird said.

“While initially we will focus on our MRP apparel stores, there is potential to follow with our MRPHome and MRPSport divisions.”

The aim of MRP, like its competitors Zara, TopShop and H&M, is to deliver relevant and on-trend fashion coupled with great value.

The label has been hailed as having an ‘infectious brand personality’ and has gone on to be one of South Africa’s most-recognised and price-conscious brands.

“We are thrilled to be opening our doors in the heart of Melbourne,” MRP managing director, Nicci Lyne said. “We believe fashion is for everyone which is why we offer the latest looks at an everyday great price.”

In keeping with the MRP model, the store will carry clothing, accessories, footwear and sleepwear for ladies, men and kids.

In recent years, MRP have collaborated with fashion names including designer Henry Holland, model Agyness Deyn and indie band Fun.

The Mr Price Group, MRP’s parent company, sells predominantly its own branded merchandise. It has a total of 1,150 stores globally, an online channel and was ranked fourth in the Sunday Times Business Times Top 100 Companies in South Africa.
