Meghan’s last-ditch letter to the King

The Duchess of Sussex is said to have taken an extraordinary step to confront King Charles before leaving for the US.

Meghan's 'very brave' request to King Charles

Meghan Markle has taken the extraordinary step of formally requesting a one-on-one, in-person meeting with King Charles III, according to royal sources.

The Duchess requested the meeting, without Prince Harry, in a bid to “clear the air” before returning to the United States, said royal reporter Neil Sean.

“She’d now like (to), before they return back to California, to have a one-to-one audience with King Charles III,” Mr Sean said on his YouTube channel.

“And what’s interesting here is, according to that good source, this was made in a formal letter, this is how you write to the King.”

The formal process of writing British Monarch would go through their equerry, who for King Charles III is Major Johnny Thompson, dubbed “Major Eye Candy” and who was the Queen’s former bodyguard. That letter would then be forwarded to the King for his consideration.

“Now you have to admire Meghan’s self-belief, whatever you think,” Mr Sean said.

“Basically, according to this letter, she feels it would be an opportunity to clear the air, put the rights from wrongs and explain some of the rationales behind what they’ve been doing over the last two years.

“It’s a very brave move from Meghan herself, because basically what’s she’s saying is, look: ‘I’m the leader in this relationship if you want to sit down and chat to me; I’m open to that. Perhaps I can explain to you what’s going on and why we did it. Give both sides.

“For Meghan, this is another grasp at the final straw as it were, let’s get together and see what we can thrash out.”

King Charles III used his first speech as Monarch to make a public display of affection to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Despite continued reports of a fracture amid accusations of bullying, the King included the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in his official address to the nation despite their withdrawal as official working members of the Royal family.

“I want to also express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas,” the King said.

While outwardly expressing affection, the King’s lack of royal titles for the Duke and Duchess, and his reference to their lives in the United States, were seen as a major snub to the non-working members of the royal family.

If the King does agree to the private meeting, it’s unclear when it would be held before Prince Harry and Ms Markle leave the United Kingdom.

HARRY AND MEGHAN’S EMOTIONAL NIGHT IN WINDSOR

The Duke and Duchess reportedly spent the night in Windsor and planned to return to California “almost immediately” following the Queen’s funeral after being separated from their children Archie and Lilibet for almost two weeks.

“Meghan and Harry are preparing to return to Montecito almost immediately after the funeral, where they’ll be reunited with Archie and Lilibet after being separated for over two weeks,” the royal insider told Us Weekly.

“It’s the longest amount of time they have been apart from their children.”

King Charles, meanwhile, left Windsor less than 24 hours after the Queen’s funeral on a private jet to Scotland.

He was joined by wife Camilla, Queen Consort, to spend time at Balmoral castle, where the Queen died just 11 days ago.

QUEEN WOULD ‘EXCITEDLY TAKE HARRY’S CALLS FROM US’

Queen Elizabeth excitedly took Prince Harry’s calls when he moved to the US but gradually became perplexed by his complaints, according to royal expert Richard Kay.

He told the MailOnline: “Harry yesterday was not just mourning the loss of a grandmother — she was also the figure to whom in his anguish he turned as his royal life unravelled.

“There is no doubt that grandson and monarch had a close bond. The Queen’s staff have told me how, in the early days of Harry’s exile in America, the Queen would excitedly take his phone calls.

“Over time this changed and she later became perplexed by Harry’s complaints.”
