‘Flop-umentary’: Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha, slams Netflix documentary

Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle, has accused the Duchess of lies and exaggeration in a controversial new interview.

Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister has revealed her reaction to the controversial new Netflix documentary series Harry and Meghan.

The Sussexes’ highly-anticipated six-part tell-all documentary series was released on Netflix on Thursday night (AEDT), attracting global attention as the couple opened up for the first time on their fallout with the British royal family.

Samantha Markle appeared on Sunrise on Friday for a savage take-down of the Duchess of Sussex, going so far as to rubbish comparisons between her and Prince Harry’s mother Princess Diana.

“First of all, I will not call it a documentary,” she said. “It was a flop-umentary.”

“It is so much rhetoric at this point and so many lies have been thrown out there, debunked, and yet still there is this repeated need to push this narrative.”

Sunrise host Natalie Barr probed Ms Markle on what she thought of Prince Harry comparing her half-sister to the beloved Princess Diana.

“I will say that I don’t ever recall hearing anybody say Diana was a compulsive liar,” she said.

Ms Markle accused the royal couple of contributing to an “entrenched media agenda” supported by million-dollar public relations teams.

“Everybody knows they were paying very pricey PR to tell their story,” she said.

“To sit back and say that they were silenced and they could not sell their story – with multimillion-dollar PR – I would beg to differ.”

The estranged sister did not pull any punches when accusing the Sussexes of lying and exaggerating their experience since the fallout with the royal family.

“I said at the beginning, if she did this to our family she will do it to yours,” Ms Markle said.

In the documentary, the Duchess speaks of her close relationship with her half-sister’s daughter, Ashleigh.

While Ms Markle said she had little to do with Samantha, she connected with Ashleigh, who she described as being like a “little sister”, and that they enjoyed holidays, dinners and drinks together.

Ashleigh, who was brought up by her maternal grandparents, spoke warmly of Markle, saying she was someone special to her.

“I think she takes on a lot of roles for me,” she said.

“There’s a sister element. There’s something maternal. She’s a best friend.”

Ms Markle said royal media advisors had told her it would be too hard to explain to the press if Ashleigh was invited to the wedding, when her niece’s mother Samantha was not.

Ms Markle said it was “painful” calling Ashleigh to say she could not come to the wedding.
