Meghan Markle and Prince Harry royal wedding: Princess Diana to be honoured

PRINCE Harry has reportedly gone to a big effort to ensure his late mother Lady Diana’s presence will be felt during his wedding to Meghan Markle.

Remembering Princess Diana: 20 Years On

THE memory of the late Princess Diana will be front and centre at her son Harry’s wedding to US actor Meghan Markle today.

The Prince has gone to efforts to ensure mother’s presence will be felt during the service through subtle touches in everything from the flowers to the charities they have asked guests to donate to.

Diana’s sister Lady Jane Fellowes, 61, has been chosen to give a reading.

The late Princess’ other siblings Earl Spencer and Lady Sarah McCorquodale will also be in attendance.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle both feel honoured that Lady Jane will be representing her family and helping to celebrate the memory of the late Princess on the wedding day,” Kensington Palace said in a statement earlier this month.

Diana was known as “the people’s Princess” for her bond with the public, ethos Harry and Ms Markle seem to be trying to replicate in their wedding service.

The couple have stated multiple times they want the public to feel part of their special day and have invited 2640 members of the public including youth leaders, schoolchildren and wounded soldiers into the grounds of Windsor Castle for the service.

Harry and Ms Markle have also asks guests to consider donating to seven different charities in lieu of gifts including the Children’s HIV Association.

Princess Diana made headlines around the world in the 1980s when she advocated for HIV-positive people which at the time was viewed as controversial.

Harry and Ms Markle’s florist Philippa Craddock will also be decorating the chapel with white roses, among other flowers.

White roses were Diana’s favourite flower and one of the gardens at Kensington Palace was transformed into a “white garden” last year to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

Ms Markle’s engagement ring, which Harry designed himself, also includes two diamonds that were owned by Diana.

During the engagement interview, Harry said Diana would have loved Ms Markle.

“I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends with Meghan,” Harry said.
