The 14-year-old twin daughters of Lisa Marie Presley may be at the centre of a custody battle between their father and other relatives after the shock death of their mother at the age of 54.
Michael Lockwood, the father of Finley and Harper, is ready to take the battle to court, according to TMZ.
Lockwood currently holds 40 per cent custody of the twins, while Presley had 60 per cent custody of the girls at the time of her death
But there is now speculation that Presley’s first husband Danny Keough, who had been living with Presley at the time of her death and gave her CPR in a desperate bid to save her, could fight to get custody of the children.
Danny Keough moved in with Presley, the only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla, after the devastating death of their son, Benjamin Storm, in July 2020 at the age of 27.
He reportedly considers himself to be a stepdad to the twins and had just returned home from dropping them off at school when Presley suffered a cardiac arrest.
Riley Keough, Presley’s eldest child and the twins’ half-sister, could also fight to get custody, TMZ reports.
The acclaimed actress is married to Australian stuntman Ben Smith-Petersen, who she met on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road.
One source who knows Lockwood, Presley’s fourth husband, told TMZ: “It’ll be a cold day in hell before he gives up custody of those children.”
Under California law, Lockwood would ordinarily get full custody, unless a judge determines he’s not a fit parent.
Lockwood was Presley’s fourth husband who dramatically split from the star in 2016.
She was previously married to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage.
Presley and Lockwood remained in a bitter divorce until her death and the 61-year-old music producer was seeking $57,000 a month in child support.
Allegations of drug use and child abuse were hurled around during their acrimonious split, TMZ reports.
Lisa Marie Presley died from a second cardiac arrest she suffered while in a Los Angeles hospital last Thursday.
She passed away with her mother Priscilla, 77, by her bedside after the family signed a “do not resuscitate” order.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Priscilla Presley said in a statement after the daughter’s tragic death.
The singer-songwriter’s final resting place will be next to her son, Benjamin, at Graceland, the famed home of Elvis.
Elvis and other members of the Presley family are also buried at Graceland.
