Meghan Markle carrying out a curtsy 'perfectly' in Suits

A scene from an episode of Suits showing Meghan Markle performing the “perfect curtsy” has resurfaced after the Duchess of Sussex claimed “I didn’t know what I was doing” when she first greeted the Queen.

Markle, 41, spoke about meeting the monarch in 2016 in the second episode of the Netflix docu-series Harry & Meghan, with the scene labelled “disrespectful” to the late Queen.

The Duchess claimed she was surprised to learn she would need to bow for the Queen and said Prince Harry had helped her practice ahead of the meeting with his grandmother.

But royal fans spotted the scene of Markle performing a curtsy in her role as paralegal Rachel Zane.

The footage, filmed in 2010, shows Louis Litt (actor Rick Hoffman) thanking Rachel for research she did into a case he was working on.

He then jokingly prompts her to bow for him – she performs a quick curtsy in response.

An Instagram user that shared the clip noted Markle’s “perfect curtsy”.

It comes as a member of the House of Windsor has broken the royal family’s dignified silence to defend Prince William and Catherine from the “lies” of “fictional TV”.

Two weeks after the show Harry & Meghan dropped on Netflix, Lady Sophie Winkleman became the first royal to publicly address the “uncomplaining bravery” of the senior royals in the face of “relentless” and “undermining” criticism.

Ms Winkleman, an English actress, is married to Lord Frederick Windsor, who is the 52nd in line to the British throne as the son of the Queen’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent.

As an actress who married into the royals, much like Meghan Markle, her comments of being “honoured to know” a family “always so good to me”, contain a pointed layer of significance.

“I cherish my growing closeness to the senior members of the royal family who are so hardworking, uncomplaining and brave in the face of relentless and brutal media attention, criticism, lies, undermining and fictional TV programs,” she wrote in The Spectator.

Ms Winkleman, who said she would be spending Christmas with “some” of her royal relations in “various locations”, previously stood by her in-laws after Prince Harry and Markle’s “Megxit” from the UK, with The Times noting in an interview “not all actresses who join the Firm run off”.

“I’ve been incredibly welcomed with open arms by all of them. I haven’t had a single negative experience,” Ms Winkleman told the publication.

“The Queen’s been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William’s been heaven,” she said.

“They’d never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone’s looked after me.”

Ms Winkleman’s latest defence of the royal family comes as the Sussex Netflix series became the UK’s most-watched subscription television series of 2022, according to new viewership figures from audience research organisation, Barb.

The first episode of Harry & Meghan was seen by an average of 4.5 million people in the seven days after its debut on December 8, almost double the next closet series, The Crown, which was seen by 2.8 million people.
