Kate Middleton has proved herself to be a down-to-earth duchess after she was seen picking up Halloween supplies in a local supermarket near the family’s country home.

Kate Middleton: 6 royal facts you didn't know about the Duchess of Cambridge

Kate, the “down-to-earth” Duchess of Cambridge, 37, was spotted browsing for fun Halloween kids’ costumes in the local Sainsbury’s department store near her country retreat at around lunchtime on Thursday.

Kate was spotted in the popular supermarket chain in Norfolk, which is where she and William have a country home.

It appears to confirm that the family are spending the half term school holidays at their countryside retreat, which is named Anmer Hall, according to The Sun.

An onlooker claims that Kate was spotted picking up Halloween costumes with Prince George, six, and Princess Charlotte, four.

The woman said: “It was lovely to see her [Kate] just being a normal mum shopping with her kids.

“I love how she [Kate] just goes about her normal life, she is so down to earth.”

It’s not the first time the mum-of-three has been spotted shopping in a chain store, and she stunned shoppers last Christmas by popping into The Range, a local chain retailer selling home and garden products, furniture and kitchen equipment, to pick up some festive gifts.

The royal tots are said to be on their half term holidays, and the Cambridges often spend this time at the 10-bedroom Anmer Hall, in West Norfolk, which was a wedding present from the Queen.

Speaking to The Sun, royal expert Phil Dampier said: “William and Kate have made sure that their three children are getting as normal a childhood as possible and they all love the outdoor life.

“At Anmer Hall in Norfolk they go for long walks in woods and have frequent trips to the beach.

“Kate’s mum Carole is very close to George and often takes him out alone.”

People were quick to gush over Kate being spotting in the supermarket chain, and praised her for being “relatable.”

One wrote on Instagram: “Over the years I’ve enjoyed seeing pics of Kate going about a routine things like shopping.

“She is a perfect representative of the Crown while on royal duties, and just relatable Kate when not on duties.”

Another added: “Humble family.”

It’s not the first time the Cambridge family has been praised for being thrifty.

Passengers of Flybe, a local budget airline, were shocked when Kate and the rest of the Cambridge brood boarded a £73-a-head budget ($A137.50) flight from Norwich to Aberdeen to visit the Queen at Balmoral.

Kate also did her own make-up on her wedding day and has been seen handing round packed lunches to her excitable kids at the polo this summer.

Their sweet Christmas card last year, featuring an autumnal scene with the family-of-five was shot in the grounds.

Anmer Hall is located around 35 miles west of Norwich, and the royal couple spent £1.5 million ($A2.83 million) upgrading the home before moving in 2013.

It is a Georgian manor which was originally constructed in 1802 and features a swimming pool and tennis courts.

The couple based themselves there after welcoming their first child, Prince George, as it was also easier for Prince William’s job as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service.

The couple moved back to Kensington Palace, now their main residence, ready for Prince George to start school, but retain their country getaway.
