Hailey Bieber has broken her silence about husband Justin’s facial paralysis, saying it was “very scary”.
It comes after the Canadian musician took to Instagram at the weekend revealing he would not able to perform some tour days after being struck down with a rare virus that causes facial paralysis.
The 25-year-old her husband was recovering from the rare Ramsay Hunt syndrome and was “doing really well”.
“He’s getting better every single day. He’s feeling a lot better,” she said on Good Morning America.
“And obviously it was just a very scary and random situation to happen, but he’s going to be totally okay. And I’m just grateful he’s fine.”
This is the second major health scare the couple have endured this year, after Mrs Bieber suffered a mini stroke in March.
The model revealed she had to have surgery to close a hole in her heart.
“It was a little hard for me to recover from the procedure, just giving myself the time to be able to work out again and feel like normal if that makes sense, but I am doing well now. I’m not having to be on any medication anymore so I feel good,” she said.
The daughter of Stephen Baldwin also revealed the health scares had brought them closer together.
“I think that the silver lining of it honestly is that it brings us a lot closer, because you’re going through it together, you’re there for each other, you’re supporting each other, and there’s just something that really bonds you through, through these times. That is, I think, the silver lining of these crazy times.”
Mrs Bieber appeared on the show to promote her new skincare company Rhode, which was named after the model’s middle name.
JUSTIN BIEBER REVEALS DEVASTATNG DIAGNOSIS
Justin Bieber has revealed he’s been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which is a rare virus that affects the nerves in the face and can cause facial paralysis.
In a video posted to Instagram, the 28-year-old pop star announced that he’s cancelling at least the “next few shows” of his 130-date Justice World Tour.
“I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on,” he said. “I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it’s from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.
“As you can see, this eye is not blinking,” he said, gesturing to his face. “I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”
The two-time Grammy winner apologised to fans frustrated by the cancellations, explaining he is simply not capable of performing at the moment.
“This is pretty serious, as you can see,” he said. “I wish this wasn’t the case, but obviously my body is telling me I’ve gotta slow down and I hope you guys understand.”
The video clearly shows that one eye is lagging significantly behind the other and that the singer is struggling to blink both eyes at once.
Bieber plans to rest and relax so that he can “get back to 100 per cent”. He’s also currently doing facial exercises to rehabilitate the muscles and nerves. It’s expected that he will regain full use of his face in time, but he’s currently not sure how much time it will take.
“I gotta go get my rest on so I can get my face back to where it’s supposed to be. I love you guys, thanks for being patient with me, and I’m going to get better,” he said.
“It’s going to be OK, I have hope, and I trust God and I trust that this is all for a reason. I’m not sure what that is right now, but in the meantime I’m going to rest.”
