Joey King says filming with Jacob Elordi in Kissing Booth 2 ‘wasn’t easy’

They fell in love on the first Kissing Booth, but by the sequel Joey King and Jacob Elordi had split. Now the actress has revealed what it was like to film their scenes.

Joey King has opened up about what it was like to shoot Kissing Booth 2 with her ex-boyfriend.

The 21-year old American actress fell in love with Aussie Jacob Elordi, 23, on set of the first Netflix film in 2017, but by the time they began filming the sequel last year the pair – who play onscreen couple Elle and Noah – had gone their separate ways.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, King said she didn’t want to pretend like it was an easy experience.

“No one’s thinking to themselves ‘That was easy’ because it wasn’t,” she said.

“I’m sure people will analyse every movement and every detail. And you know what? Let them. But at the end of the day, I was just thrilled to be Elle Evans again,” she said.

“There’s so much I want to say. What’s the most, um, correct way to go about this?

“Elle Evans needs her Noah Flynn, and whatever that means for my personal life, I’ll do anything to make sure the story of my character who I care about so much is complete.”

It comes as Elordi, who is originally from Brisbane, has reportedly moved on with his Euphoria co-star, Zendaya.

The pair met on the popular HBO series – which streams on Binge – in mid-2018, and first sparked romance rumours in August last year when they were seen on holiday in Greece.

Elordi broke his silence on the status of their relationship a few months afterwards, in a November 2019 interview with GQ Australia, stating that Zendaya is “like my sister”, adding: “Zendaya is an amazing creative, you know? She’s super dope to work with. She’s an incredible artist and a very caring person to all of us.”

But fans have speculated the actor sidestepped the question, after Zendaya accompanied Elordi on two trips to Australia in November last year and this February.

The couple were last seen together at a flea market in Los Angeles in March.

In Euphoria, which is set to begin filming its second season soon, Zendaya plays the lead role Rue, a recovering teen drug addict, while Elordi portrays high school athlete Nate Jacobs.

The series shocked viewers with its extremely graphic content when it aired last year, as it follows a group of high school students “as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media,” per the show’s official plot.

In one episode alone, close to 30 penises flash onscreen and in the premiere one character “commits statutory rape with a 17-year-old trans girl” and Rue overdoses on drugs.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys said of controversy at the time: “(Euphoria’s) not for everyone – it’ll inevitably get people talking” but “it’s not sensational to be sensational”.

“It may seem boundary-pushing, and the idea of putting them on TV may be, but somebody lived them,” Mr Bloys said.
