RUMOURS are swirling that Hollywood's perennial heart-throb Johnny Depp is engaged to Amber Heard.

According to E! News, Depp and the actress "are set to walk down the aisle...after Heard was spotted wearing a diamond ring on that finger."

Us Weekly have reported that "the proposal happened a while ago, she just didn't wear the ring," with Celebuzz claiming that they've been engaged since Christmas.

Okay okay, so there's no official word that Depp and Heard are engaged, but here are five things you need to know about the woman who has (allegedly) tamed his heart.

1. She's a woman from humble beginnings

Born in America's Southwest, Heard's father is a contractor and her mother an internet researcher. Heard dropped out of school at 17, leaving Austin, Texas, for New York. She pursued a career in modelling before the acting bug took over and she moved to LA. The 27-year-old apparently loves guns, vintage cars and books.

2. She has had 'successful relationships with men and women'

Yep. Amber Heard likes men and women - but don't call her bisexual.

"I'm not one to talk about my personal life as I prefer to keep that as private as possible," she told UK publication Metro. "There has been a lot of media attention surrounding my relationship. It's been frustrating as I don't label myself one way or another - I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love, it's the person that matters."

In 2010 Heard announced she was in a relationship with photographer Tasya van Ree, whom she dated from 2008 to 2011.

3. She's an out-and-out atheist

After losing her best friend in a car crash at the age of 16, Heard decided there was no God. "That was the hardest blow emotionally that I have ever had to endure," she told USA Today. "Suddenly, you realise tomorrow might not come. Now I live by the motto, 'Today is what I have.'" Soon after her friend's death, Heard's then-boyfriend introduced her to Russian writer Ayn Rand. "I've read all of her books. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with her ideals. All I've ever needed is myself," she said.

4. She and Depp met while they were both in other relationships

Heard and Depp met in 2010 when they were starring in the film The Rum Diary. At the time, Depp was with Vanessa Paradis and Heard with van Ree. Depp and Heard reportedly didn't start dating until 2012, when they had both split from their respective partners.

5. She doesn't want to be a celebrity

"It's not part of my professional life. I want to be an artist," she told Flare magazine in 2013. She'll fit right in with notoriously private Depp, then, with his private jets and private islands.
