Ed Sheeran got teary-eyed while talking about wife Cherry Seaborn’s health issues in a new trailer for his upcoming docuseries.
Disney+ dropped a sneak peek for The Sum Of It All this week, which showed the Bad Habits singer breaking down over personal matters, reports the New York Post.
While Seaborn, who shares two kids with Sheeran – Lyra, 2, and Jupiter, 10 months – was pregnant with the latter, she developed a tumour with “no route to treatment until after the birth.”
“Cherry’s health, it was really bad,” Sheeran recalled in the clip, adding that shortly after, his best friend, Jamal Edwards, died of a heart attack caused by recreational drugs.
“You guys said, ‘Do you want to make a documentary?’ And I went, ‘Yeah! And it should be me in the studio’ …. that’s not what the documentary is,” he added, as footage cut to him tearing up in a car.
“Life is unpredictable. Plans can change, really quickly.”
Sheeran previously shared on social media that his wife’s health scare, the loss of his friend and legal issues affected the release of his upcoming album, Subtract.
The highs, the lows, and everything in between.

“A series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art … within the space of a month,” he wrote earlier this month.
“My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter.”
After Edwards’ death, another of Sheeran’s friends, Shane Warne also passed away in tragic circumstances, sending the singer into a downward spiral.
“I felt like I didn’t want to live anymore,” he went on.
“And I have had that throughout my life. … You’re under the waves drowning. You’re just sort of in this thing. And you can’t get out of it.”
He added that he’d felt “selfish” for feeling that way, especially as a father: “I feel really embarrassed about it.”
Ultimately, he began to feel better after seeking help from a therapist, on the advice of his wife.
“No one really talks about their feelings where I come from,” Sheeran said.
“People think it’s weird getting a therapist in England. … I think it’s very helpful to be able to speak with someone and just vent and not feel guilty about venting. Obviously, like, I’ve lived a very privileged life. So my friends would always look at me like, ‘Oh, it’s not that bad.’”
The new trailer also shows Sheeran looking back at his unlikely road to stardom – from a “small,” “ginger” boy with a stutter to a global superstar. “That guy doesn’t grow up to be a pop star,” he stated, adding, “It’s so unlikely.”
Seaborn features heavily featured throughout trailer, with clips of the pair going on dates and sharing kisses.
“Everything in my life sort of got so much better when Cherry came into it,” Sheeran gushed over his wife, whom he married in 2019.
Despite all the emotional moments, the trailer ends on a happy note, with Sheeran celebrating his birthday and laughing with friends.
The teaser for the new docuseries comes shortly after Sheeran revealed that Eyes Closed, the first single off of Subtract, is dedicated to Edwards.
“This song is about losing someone,” he explained via Instagram. “Feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and everything just reminds you of them and things you did together.”
The four-part series drops May 3 on Disney+.
