US President Donald Trump has told US servicemen that he hasn’t got a Christmas gift for his wife, Melania.
After thanking service members from each branch of the military via satellite, he was asked what he was planning to give the first lady.
Mr Trump called the soldier’s question a “tough” one, adding he got her a very beautiful card and they have a great relationship. The president admitted he’s “still working on a Christmas present.”
“I’ve got a little time,” Mr Trump said the day before Christmas.
Mr Trump has a history of not exchanging gifts with his wife at Christmas, admitting he was “a bad present person” before he became US President.
In April last year he also admitted that he was too busy to buy his wife a birthday present.
NO GIFT FOR MELANIA BUT TRUMP MAY HAVE ONE FOR KIM
While Mrs Trump may not receive a gift from the US President, Mr Trump said he may have one for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who has said it may have a “Christmas gift” for the US in the form of a missile if sanctions are not eased by the end of the year.
The North has said that its “Christmas gift” to the United States will depend on Washington’s actions.
“That’s OK,” Mr Trump said when reporters asked about a possible surprise from North Korea. “We’ll find out what the surprise is and we’ll deal with it very successfully. Let’s see what happens. Everybody’s got surprises for me but let’s see what happens. I handle them as they come along.”
“Maybe it’s a present where he sends me a beautiful vase as opposed to a missile test,” Mr Trump said.
“I may get a nice present from him. You don’t know. You never know.”
Nuclear talks between the US and North Korea have been stalled since a February summit between Mr Trump and Kim fell apart.
A new satellite image of a factory where North Korea makes military equipment used to launch long-range missiles shows the construction of a new structure.
Mr Trump, who started out the northern hemisphere Christmas Eve morning tweeting his frustrations with Democrats over impeachment, defended himself when reporters asked about the articles of impeachment being held up in the House.
Everything weâre seeing from Speaker Pelosi and Senator Schumer suggests that theyâre in real doubt about the evidence theyâve brought forth so far not being good enough, and are very, very urgently seeking a way to find some more evidence. The only way to make this work is to..

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has yet to send the articles to the Senate, saying she won’t do so before she knows what the Senate trial will look like and whether it will be fair.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested Monday the process is at a standstill until after the holidays.
