THERE is nothing hands-off about Cate Blanchett.
True to her reputation as a hands-on mum, the Oscar award winner clutched daughter Edith Vivian Patricia close to her chest as the family was snapped enjoying an Easter break at their Berowra Waters holiday home at the weekend.
Blanchett, 45, and playwright husband Andrew Upton recently announced they’d added to their brood with the adoption of the baby girl.
They’re already parents to three boys — Dashiel, 13; Roman, 10; and Ignatius, six.
“Fourth time round, it’s extraordinary,” Blanchett told Sky News recently while promoting her new film Cinderella.
“There’s a lot of children out there who don’t have the good fortune that our biological children do so it’s wonderful, it’s wonderful to welcome a little girl into our fold.”
The family travelled by boat to the Berowra Waters property, loaded with supplies to see them through for a few days including suitcases and bags of groceries and seafood.
Based in Hunters Hill, the Blanchett and Upton clan seems to be making the most of their last months in Australia before they relocate to the United States.
They’ve said they will move to the US at the end of the year when Upton finishes his tenure as artistic director at the Sydney Theatre Company.
Of being a mother, Blanchett recently told Vogue Australia: “Children certainly teach one about compromise. I think before having children the idea of compromise rubbed shoulders with weakness or deception in some way. Children are spirited, passionate, political, demanding. They are also heartbreaking. They constantly extend parents and so parents are constantly confronted with failures, don’t you think? I’d rather presently live life this way than not.”
