‘Bit sick’: Abbie Chatfield’s brutal takedown of ‘King’ Charles from bed

Abbie Chatfield used the Queen’s death to deliver a scathing take on kings, colonialism and the monarchy in general.

Abbie Chatfield delivered a scathing assessment of the Queen’s eldest son following the monarch’s death on Friday at the age of 96.

Filming herself from bed, the TV and radio presenter also took the opportunity to declare colonialism as “not great” as she fired off shots after apparently waking to the news.

“OK, so the Queen is dead,” Chatfield flippantly began.

“(It’s) obviously sad that someone has died, sad for her family.

“The colonialism, not great; the monarchy, not my favourite thing in the world.”

Despite admitting she knew little about the next in line for the throne, Chatfield mocked vomiting when she mentioned “King Charles”, correctly pointing out it is no longer the 1700s.

“The thing I got a bit sick about is … I just saw a video that was, like, ‘King Charles made a statement …’”

Chatfield delivered a look of exaggerated shock before continuing.

“King? King?! King Charles?! she said.

After appearing as a contestant on the bachelor, Chatfield has carved a media niche by delivering her unfiltered opinions and revelations.

She goes on to suggest the soon-to-be King is not “competent”, although declines to cite her sources on having heard not good things about him.

“From what I gather, he isn’t very competent – not that they (the royal family) really do anything,” she said.

“He isn’t very kind or competent. I don’t really know, and I haven’t good things about Charles.

“Also, it isn’t (the) 1700s. ‘The King?’ Ew! Ew! Oh, my God. I knew this day was coming, but I don’t like it. ‘King Charles …’.”

Chatfield’s post caused a stir, with some people messaging her to say “shut up”.

An early childhood educator was among those who sent a direct message, telling Chatfield to “shut your mouth for once”.

“Use your platform in a positive way about this, not going off your head,” the woman wrote.

But Chatfield was quick to hit back at her critics, posting a another video and captioned images online.

“If you’re an early childhood educator, maybe don’t troll someone online,” Chatfield said.

“Hope everyone’s learning things about people they know today.

“To all the monarchists going crazy in my DMs, I said it was sad she’s dead. You can’t deny that colonialism exists.

“It’s sad that somebody has died. But if the word colonialism makes you so angry you want to send me paragraphs about how I’m a bitch, or say ‘shut the f**** up’, or say I have to unfollow you now, maybe you should reevaluate how you understand history and current politics as well.

“So yeah, sad she’s died, but the weirdest thing for me is going to be having Prince Charles, or I guess King Charles, on our money.”

Then in a captioned photo, Chatfield wrote: “Having a king makes me feel like a 16th century peasant waiting for the town crier to decree my tax increase.”

Choosing to get out of bed before delivering his own statement on news of the Queen’s death, Anthony Albanese revealed he would travel to London to attend the funeral and intended to meet with King Charles III.

“In the coming days, the Governor-General and I will be heading to London where we will meet the King,” he said.

“We will convey the sorrow of Australians as well as our best wishes to him, and the Queen Consort, as he takes on his duties as sovereign.”

Australia’s federal parliament was also suspended for two weeks, which Mr Albanese explained was dictated by protocol.

“Australian hearts go out to the people of the United Kingdom who mourn today, knowing they will feel they have lost part of what makes their nation whole,” he said.

“It is a time of mourning for the people in Britain, across the commonwealth, and indeed around the world.”
