Bee Shaffer posts photo after mum Anna Wintour throws away 'too messy' Xmas tree

VOGUE editor Anna Wintour was making no concessions to the Christmas spirit, throwing out her tree before Christmas Day because it was "too messy".

SHE'S a global style icon, and one nod of her head can make or break a designer's career, and so it was this Christmas that Anna Wintour decided Christmas trees were well and truly out, ditching the offending sapling from her New York home before Santa even had a chance to get down the chimney.

Bee Shaffer, daughter of the famously icy Vogue editor, posted a Christmas Day photo on Instagram showing a slew of presents and designer shopping bags sitting morosely in a bare corner.

“My mom threw out our tree before Christmas Day because 'it was too messy,'” Shaffer posted.

The holiday photo was presumably taken inside Wintour's lavish Greenwich Village townhouse in New York (she also has a home on Long Island).

Last week, Wintour - who is also Conde Nast's artistic director and reportedly earns over $US2 million a year ($2.2 million) - hosted her annual Christmas party at her home.

Clearly the tree had already served its purpose when Wintour decided it was time to relegate it to the Christmas scrap heap.

Wintour lives at the house with her long-term partner, Texas-born billionaire and telecommunications pioneer Shelby Ryan and, aside from Bee, also has another child, Charles, 28, both with ex-husband David Shaffer.

In recent years, Wintour’s home has become known for hosting a litany of swanky celebrity soirees.

In 2010, she hosted a party for the Obamas, while the night before the exclusive Met Gala (which she also hosts), she invited Kanye West and Kim Kardashian around for a bite. Let’s hope they didn’t bring a plant.
