TAKE a geeky youth and four lost boys and you have a recipe for international recognition and success.
Two Australian TV shows about the youngsters have been nominated for International Emmys in the Kids Awards category.
The nominations were announced in conjunction with the MipJunior entertainment fair in Cannes. Melbourne and Los Angeles-based Galaxy Pop has been nominated in the animation category for Get Ace.
The series follows the adventures of hapless geek Ace McDougal who, after being accidentally fitted with a pair of hi-tech super-spy braces, finds himself thrown into a world of espionage and adventure.
Galaxy Pop’s co-founder Gian Christian said he and his partner Dina McPherson were delighted with the recognition. It came on the back of strong local and international sales, including a deal with US streaming service Hulu.
Melbourne and Sydney-based Matchbox Pictures is in the Series category with Nowhere Boys.
The first series of the show followed four boys who get lost in the forest and discover, when they return home, that they are in an alternate world identical to theirs except for one startling difference — they were never born.
In the second series, they have found their way home, but they discover they are not the only ones who crossed back to this universe.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is moving the awards ceremony from New York to Cannes. It will take place as part of MIPTV in April next year.
There are four finalists in each category.
