ANNE Hathaway’s mother has revealed her famous daughter may not have come into the world were it not for Diane Von Furstenberg’s wrap dress.
Von Furstenberg (the designer who created the dress which wraps around a woman’s waist and ties at the front, creating an hourglass figure) revealed the anecdote when asked how to describe the dress’s staying power.
“Last year, I did a thing for women nominees at the Oscars and I was hosting a lunch with [actress] Anne Hathaway,” she told the Wall Street Journal.
“Prior to the lunch she introduced me to her mother, and her mother said, ‘I have to tell you something that she doesn’t even know.’ She said, ‘Well, I seduced her father in a wrap dress. As a matter of fact she may have been conceived in one.’
“Then Anne says to her mother, ‘Is that the one with the tulip print?’ She kept the dress!”
Von Furstenberg created the dress 40 years ago and has now turned her designs into a brand estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, with 1,500 points of sale, including 97 DVF retail outlets in 55 countries.
