American Apparel reveal latest lingerie model and she's a 62-year-old woman

YOUTH clothing company American Apparel have unveiled their latest lingerie model - a 62-year-old woman.

In an update to their 1.5 million Facebook fans, the clothing retailer posted a picture of model Jackie O'Shaughnessy with the caption "Sexy has no expiration date. Jackie in Floral Lace Lingerie."

O'Shaughnessy has modelled for American Apparel for two years, but up until now had never done a lingerie shoot.

The model had previously told Fashionista that she was discovered on a Manhattan street by a talent scout from the retailer at the age of 60.

"I found a spot on the stoop and sat there smoking in my puffy winter coat and a woman walked by and said, 'You look so regal sitting there smoking that cigarette.' I said, 'Well, I don't think most people would agree with you these days.' And she answered, 'It's not the cigarette. You're just beautiful,'" O'Shaughnessy said.

There's no denying O'Shaughnessy looks fantastic, but is this a genuine show of diversity from American Apparel, or a publicity stunt?

On the Facebook post, the retailer provides a link (NSFW) to the lingerie section of their website - click through and you'll see no trace of O'Shaughnessy; in her place are dozens of pictures of very young models.

In recent months, the retailer has come under fire for a range of provocative stunts - from displaying shop window mannequins with pubic hair, to selling T-shirts with graphic depictions of menstruating vaginas.

American Apparel would have no shortage of models should they want to expand their roster of older stunners - earlier this month model Christie Brinkley, who turns 60 on Sunday, made headlines worldwide with her age-defying look.
