Rocker Jon Bon Jovi is being hailed a hero after footage shared online shows him stopping a woman from jumping off a bridge. Watch video.

Livin’ on a Prayer singer Jon Bon Jovi is being hailed a hero after saving a woman from jumping off a bridge.

The iconic rocker was filming a music video for his song People’s House in Nashville when he saw a woman leaning off the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.

In CCTV shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Bon Jovi, 62, can be seen approaching the woman at around 6pm as she appears about to jump.

He then speaks to the woman with a bystander and shortly later they pull the woman over the railing, potentially saving her life.

Afterwards the woman and the rock star share a hug on the safety of the pedestrian path.

The bridge was apparently open to the public during filming for his video clip.

The Nashville Fire Department and Metropolitan Nashville Police Department attended the scene shortly after Bon Jovi’s brave action.

Metropolitan Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake hailed Bon Jovi in a “shout out” on X.

“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” Drake said.

Bon Jovi has received widespread praise after the video was shared online.

One X user wrote: “This moved me to tears. In a time of such division and hardship, I can truly feel the love in his actions. Well done, @jonbonjovi. A beautiful example of empathy and kindness.”

“This is awesome. He probably said “I’ll be there for you” to get her to come back to safety,” said another, in a nod to one of Bon Jovi’s hit songs.

A third X user posted: “Thank you for stepping in and stepping up to SAVE a life! Keep doing what you do in the world!.

As well as being a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Bon Jovi is also the founder of the JBJ Soul Foundation. Local media are reporting he is trained in speaking to people in crisis situations as a result of his position in the organisation, which would have helped him in approaching the woman on the bridge.

The charity, operating since 2006, works to “break the cycle of hunger, poverty and homelessness through developing partnerships, creating programs and providing grant funding to support innovative community benefit organisations.”
