You can take the Queen out of Australia but you can’t take Australia out of the Queen.
Eagle-eyed fashionistas were quick to pick up Queen Mary of Denmark opted for an Australian label during a welcome reception for the Danish Olympic team at Fredensborg Castle.
Tasmanian-born Mary was the epitome of elegance in a dress from Australian luxury fashion brand Zimmermann.
The Kaleidoscope Tubular Midi in Red Swirl Floral is from the Zimmermann Fall 2022 Collection, Stargazer, and retails for $1100.
It features contrast binding at the hem and cuffs and a frilled drop hem, stand collar and cuffs.
Frederik wore a grey suit but opted for a purple tie.
Mary, 52, and Frederik, 56, were joined by the monarch’s aunty, 80-year-old Princess Benedikte of Denmark.
A total of 124 athletes, including 68 women and 56 men, represented Team Denmark at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games winning a total of nine medals.
The athletes were in high spirits, with many proudly displaying their medals, as Frederik delivered a speech.
Both Mary and Frederik visited France to witness the Games in July.
Their majesties schedule has been packed with the couple having hosted a lavish dinner a day earlier at the Christian VII’s Palace in Amalienborg to mark the end of the royal sailing season.
The Danish monarchs hosted officers from the royal ship, Dannebrog, to celebrate the royals family’s annual “strygemiddag”.
The term “strygemiddag” comes from the command “ironing”, which means that the command sign is taken down from Dannebrog.
Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, who stepped down from the Danish throne in January, also attended the dinner.
Frederik and Mary also bid farewell to yacht captain Peter Schinkel Stamp, who is retiring after five years of service on the Dannebrog.
MARY AND FREDERIK’S FIRST SAILING TOUR AS MONARCHS ENDS
Earlier, the couple put on an elegant naval display.
Mary wore a navy suit and matching pumps and threw a sage-coloured clutch and patterned hair bandana in the mix. Similarly, Frederik wore his naval uniform as he joined Mary in disembarking from the royal ship, Dannebrog.
The couple smiled and waved to a waiting crowd as they brought their voyage, their first as monarchs, to a close after four months out sea.
During the season, their majesties completed state visits to Sweden and Norway as well as a commonwealth tour to Greenland and other parts of Denmark including the island of Bornholme.
Royal fans took to social media to express their adoration for the couple and particularly Mary’s style.
“She always looks so immaculately dressed. Lovely photos of them both,” remarked an X (formerly Twitter) user.
An Instagram user commented: “You are so wonderful the world’s coolest and most beautiful Royal couple in the world”.
Another praised the couple’s dedication to service.
“Amazing photos of your hardworking Royals,” a fan wrote on Instagram.
Last week, Mary was photographed in a black midi dress with puffy sleeves, a statement hat and nude slingback pumps to honour the Danish Armed Forces on National Flag Day.
The Queen complemented her outfit with a large pearl necklace, matching bracelet and stud earrings as well as gold Cartier Love bracelets.
Flag Day on September 5 was first observed in 2009 to honour those who are or have been deployed on a mission for Denmark.
The royal couple recently farewelled their eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince Christian.
The 18-year-old moved to East Africa, where he will stay until December to gain experience in farm work and pursue “deeper learning”.
Mary, a devoted mother-of-four, confessed that it will be very challenging to be without their son for the next few months.
“We are going to miss him unimaginably … very, very much,” she said while attending a ceremony in Copenhagen.
She added that both she and King Frederik are excited for him, however, they “look forward” to hearing about his travels upon his return.
Christian is following in the footsteps of his father and his grandmother, Queen Margrethe.
According to a palace spokesman, it is a tradition for Danish royals who are in line for the throne to spend considerable time abroad during their youth to broaden their understanding of the world.
