Princess Diana reveals sad truth about kids in secret tapes

Never before heard audio recordings have revealed a heartbreaking conflict between Prince Harry and King Charles, as Princess Diana unleashed on her ‘ridiculous marriage’.

Previously unreleased tapes of Princess Diana reveal King Charles was “disappointed” with the birth of Prince Harry because he wanted a girl.

In secret audio recordings from the early 1990s, the People’s Princess reveals her true feelings about her marriage to then-Prince Charles and his heartbreaking reaction to the birth of his “spare”.

Speaking about her wedding day, Diana mocked the ceremony as “grown up”.

“Here’s Diana, a kindergarten teacher. I mean the whole thing was ridiculous,” she added.

The interviews, given to biographer Andrew Morton under the condition they remain secret, are set to be revealed in a new documentary next year and promise to discuss her troubled relationships with her husband and stepmother, Raine Spencer.

While much of the interviews were published in Morton’s famous tome Diana: Her True Story, some of the most incendiary comments will be heard in her own words for the first time.

Extracts of the tapes, obtained by ABC News, cast new light on the strained relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry, who remains in California estranged from the Royal Family.

“At Harry’s christening Charles went up to mummy and said: ‘We’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl’ and mummy snapped his head off and said you should realise you are lucky to have a child that’s normal,” Diana says in the tapes.

Princess Diana’s stepmother, Countess Spencer, “snapped his head off” and told him he should realise how lucky he was to have a child.

In another snippet, Princess Diana reveals just how much she reviled her stepmother, who married John Spencer in 1976.

“I was so angry. I said I hate you so much. If you only knew how much we all hated you for what you’ve done. You ruined the house.

“You spent daddy’s money. I have said everything I possibly could. Raine said you have no idea how much pain your mother put your father through.

“I said pain Raine? It’s one word you don’t even know how to relate to. In my job I see people suffer like you never see. You call that pain? I said you’ve got a lot to learn.

“I remember really going for her gullet.”

The seven hours worth of recordings were made from Princess Diana’s conversations with her close friend, James Colthurst, while she was still married to Charles.

The documentary, “Diana: The Rest of Her Story,” was revealed on Good Morning America by Morton, who is now an ABC News royal contributor, who said hearing her voice would unearth a deeper sense of who she really was.

“It’s one thing to read something on a page, but it’s quite another to hear the person talking about it, and here we have Diana talking about her ambitions for the future,” Morton said.

“There’s a real poignancy about some of the aspects of the tape and I think people will get a really vivid sense of her personality and her character.”

The snippets of the tapes were released to coincide with the 26th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in a Paris car crash.

Their release, against Princess Diana’s explicit direction, came after Morton was convinced by Tom Jennings, the documentary’s executive producer for ABC, which has aired interviews with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“I said, ‘Andrew, wait. We do this completely different. There’s no narrator. There are no modern-day interviews. We only use media from the time. It would be like Diana is narrating her own film,’” Jennings recalled.

“And he said, ‘No one has ever asked me to do it that way before. When can you come to London?’”

“It is important as part of Diana’s legacy to allow more of those tapes to be heard.”

Morton said there’s “global interest” in the tapes, hinting that he expects there’ll be another drop of tapes after next year’s documentary, expected to be released on Disney+.

“To convey to a new generation, just how explosive these tapes were,” Morton said.

“It made people reconsider their view of the monarchy, because here was the future Queen of England talking about her unhappiness, her isolation, her distance from fellow members of the royal family. It was absolutely sensational.

“And it’s, quite frankly, knocked Prince Harry’s revelations into a cocked hat.”

Meanwhile, the Duchess of York posted a poignant tribute to her dear friend Princess Diana, in light of the anniversary of her death on August 31, 1997.

In a picture posted of the pair on Instagram, Sarah Ferguson captioned the post: “We miss you each day dearest friend.”
