Princess Anne in hospital with minor injuries and concussion after incident

The Princess Royal, 73, has been taken to hospital with minor injuries and a concussion after an incident at her home in Gloucestershire.

Princess Anne has been taken to hospital after being injured at her home in Gloucestershire, Buckingham Palace has revealed.

The Princess Royal, 73, is understood to have sustained minor injuries and a concussion on Sunday evening following an incident at her Gatcombe Park estate, where she lives with her husband, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.

The exact nature of what unfolded is unconfirmed, but it’s understood that her injuries are consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

Anne’s two adult children, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips, were at the property at the time, as well as her husband.

“She remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation,” the palace said in a statement on Monday.

“On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed.”

The statement added: “The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the Princess for a speedy recovery.”

The princess had been due to commence a visit to Canada later this week, where she was expected to take part in a ceremony at a war memorial in Newfoundland.

It’s understood that she will no longer be able to make the trip.

Anne has also had to cancel her attendance at Tuesday’s State banquet in honour of The Emperor and Empress of Japan, who are currently visiting Britain.
