Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly decided on an abrupt change of gears following an explosive period of airing details of their private lives.
According to The Sun, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have now agreed to move on from their era of tell-alls which included a bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, a six-part Netflix docu-series, Harry’s jaw-dropping memoir, and subsequent publicity blitzes.
Instead, as a source told the publication, they will turn their attention to behind-the-scenes work, including any future projects with the streaming giant.
“That period of their life is over — as there is nothing left to say,” the source told The Sun.
Harry and Meghan’s decision to go public with countless personal revelations, including their many accusations against his family and details of their turbulent years within the monarchy, has proven deeply divisive.
At certain points, it’s certainly rallied and fuelled their base of supporters – but it’s also seen them increasingly exposed to ridicule on a global stage, with everyone from late-night US TV hosts to South Park making fun of their ongoing complaints.
It’s also seen Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royals hit an all-time low - with the couple now largely estranged from members of his family, including his father Charles, stepmother Camilla, brother Prince William and sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.
Most recently, the couple made headlines after becoming embroiled in what they later described as a “near-catastrophic” paparazzi car chase.
According to a spokesman for the Sussexes, the pair plus Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland were pursued by a group of paparazzi in cars in Manhattan last month.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two New York Police Department (NYPD) officers,” a spokesman said in a blistering statement.
However, the description of the alleged incident was quickly met with plenty of scepticism – particularly given the city’s famous traffic gridlock.
While New York City Mayor Eric Adams condemned the “reckless and irresponsible” chase, a police source told the NY Post that the pursuit “definitely wasn’t two hours” and there were “no collision reports or 911 calls”, while the couple’s taxi driver watered down their claims.
Notably, Meghan has recently signed with Hollywood talent agency WME in order to strategize her next career moves, although it’s unknown whether her new team played a role in advising her and Harry’s change in content direction.
Meanwhile, the duke is reportedly now focusing on the next Invictus Games, which will take place in Germany in September.
Last year, The Sun reported that the period of time in which they released the Netflix series and Harry’s memoir was their “era of visibility”, and that Harry and Meghan were aiming to make 2023 their “year of reconciliation” with the royal family.
