Crown Princess Mary’s eldest son and new heir to the Danish throne is set to receive a massive royal allowance when his parents are crowned.

Denmark coronation will be ‘pretty low key’ predicts royal expert

Crown Princess Mary’s eldest son and new heir to the Danish throne is set to receive a massive royal allowance following his grandmother’s abdication.

Queen Margrethe abdicated the throne, citing ill health, during her annual New Year’s Eve televised address with her eldest son Crown Prince Frederik and his Australian-born wife Crown Princess Mary set to become the new King and Queen in a fortnight.

The royal couple will be proclaimed King and Queen in a low-key ceremony on January 14 that will be worlds apart from the taxpayer-funded extravaganzas of the British royal family.

Their son Prince Christian is tipped to finally receive a huge royal salary drawn from Denmark’s state budget, which could be in the millions.

Prince Christian was entitled for the allowance once turning 18 in October last year, but the Royal House said he wouldn’t take the money, Sky News reports, until completing his education or if the line of succession changed.

While it is unclear exactly how much money exactly he will receive, it is expected Prince Christian will pocket millions of Danish Krone tax free each year. Under the Royal Danish Income Tax Act, he will also be exempt from paying income tax.

His grandmother, Queen Margrethe, currently receives about 100 million kroner ($21 million) annually to help support her living and staffing costs.

Both Prince Frederik and his mother Queen Margrethe received royal allowances from the age of 18, however they were both heirs to the throne by that age.

Prince Christian is currently in his last year of school at Ordrup Gymnasium in Gentofte, a public school in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen which prepares students for university,

Prince Christian’s siblings, Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 12, directly follows her elder brother in the line of succession, however, they are not expected to benefit from the new changes.

The surprise abdication comes after a tumultuous period for the Danish monarchy, which just weeks ago was rocked by allegations of a cheating scandal involving Crown Prince Frederik.

Photos of Frederik spending time in Madrid with Genoveva Casanova prompted the Mexican socialite to threaten legal action as she denied any romantic relationship between herself and Princess Mary’s husband.

The Danish royals were also hit with allegations of bitter family rows and infighting in late 2022 after Queen Margrethe abruptly stripped her youngest son Prince Joachim’s four children of the titles they had held since birth.
