Endgame: Omid Scobie calls out Piers Morgan, Jeremy Clarkson, Kylie Minogue, Anthony Albanese

After Meghan Markle’s accusations of royal racism, Queen Camilla made a surprising, behind-the-scenes power move to respond with a little help from her celebrity friends.

Queen Camilla secretly thanked TV star Piers Morgan for defending the royal family against Meghan Markle’s claims of racism, according to a new book.

Omid Scobie’s Endgame named-dropped Morgan among several celebrities for their orbit to the palace intrigue of the royal family, including Jeremy Clarkson, Kylie Minogue, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

But it was Morgan’s scathing comments against the Duchess of Sussex that drew the personal gratitude of Queen Camilla, who “quietly thanked him for defending the Firm.”

“[Camilla] will never publicly comment on anything or speak ill of others, but she will always know someone who can do that for her,” wrote Scobie.

Morgan in 2021 called Meghan “Pinocchio Princess” on Twitter and followed a few days later by calling her a “race-baiter” on Good Morning Britain.

Morgan, however, vehemently denied Scobie’s claim he spoke to Camilla, writing in a column that that Scobie’s “fork-tongued bullsh*t” goes to the question his credibility.

“The truth is I’ve never had a single phone conversation with Her Majesty in my entire life,” Morgan wrote.

“I had no contact with Queen Camilla in that period whatsoever. I did with some other members of the Royal Family, as I said at the time, but not Camilla. Scobie just read what I said, and wrongly guessed it was Camilla.”

Scobie’s 416-page book, Endgame gives a withering assessment of how close “the Firm” is to collapse, an argument built on his opinion and his conversations with former aides, courtiers and friends of those in and around the family.

Scobie says there is a growing unrest among the public, who are “losing patience” with the royal family and respect for the monarchy.

Here are some of the public figures mentioned in the book.

KYLIE MINOGUE

Scobie reveals how finding entertainment for the King’s Coronation concert in May this year at Windsor Castle “proved a challenge” for organisers.

Sources close to Kylie Minogue — who is a regular at royal events in the past and very much an honorary Brit — said she turned down the opportunity because of the growing republican movement in Australia.

But Scobie writes there were also a number of other international pop stars who declined the invitation to perform.

They included Sir Elton John, Harry Styles, the Spice Girls, Adele, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.

ANTHONY ALBANESE

Scobie claims with the death of Queen Elizabeth, the growing republican movement in Australia is becoming “worrying” for the monarch.

“A Commonwealth realm known for its long commitment to the Crown found a new energy after the Queen’s passing,” he writes.

“Adam Bandt weighed in on Twitter: ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all who loved her. Now Australia must move forward’.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is also a devoted republican, Scobie writes, and goes on to detail how he appointed an assistant minister to his administration to hasten the process for the country to hold a referendum to become a republic.

Scobie also noted the removal of the face of the British sovereign from Australia’s five-dollar bill this year and the fact that the new ones not displaying the face of the monarch.

The royal author points to this as another sign that a referendum may come sooner, rather than later for a republic.

BORIS JOHNSON

During the state opening of parliament in May 2022, Queen Elizabeth was forced to miss the event due to her “mobility issues” and decline in health.

Prince Charles and Prince William instead were present and the Palace wanted the “world to see this as a joint duty”.

However, Scobie writes preparations the day before the event “tells a different story”.

To say Charles was calm “would be a lie” Scobie writes, with then Prime Minister Boris Johnson only adding to the chaos.

“Boris Johnson didn’t send over the speech until the very last minute, so an irritated Charles wasn’t given ample time to practice reading it,” Scobie writes.

An aide told the royal author while laughing: “Johnson has done everything he can to become the most unpopular prime minister the Windsors have ever known.”

JEREMY CLARKSON

When detailing the “blatant racism” among the royal family, Scobie recounts columnist Jeremy Clarkson’s widely-condemned sexist piece on Meghan Markle which was later investigated by the press watchdog after more than 25,000 complaints.

Clarkson wrote in the piece published in the Sun in 2022, and later removed, that he hated Meghan on a “cellular level”, adding: “At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant ‘Shame!’ and throw lumps of excrement at her.”

Scobie writes days before the column, which prompted Amazon Prime Video to decline a contract renewal with Clarkson, he was “hobnobbing” with Camilla at a Christmas party in central London.

“The pair consider each other dear friends, and, despite public pressure on Camilla to condemn his column and sexually violent language, she remained quiet on the issue,” Scobie writes.

Scobie writes he was told by a Palace source that Camilla didn’t want to be “wading into any culture wars”.

Weeks later, she gave an impassioned defence on free speech and the right of writers to express themselves.
