The son of the Norwegian crown princess has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Marius Borg Høiby was taken into custody by police on Monday evening, marking his third arrest since August.
The royal – who was born from a relationship prior to Mette-Marit’s 2001 marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, the heir apparent to the Norwegian throne – is accused of sexually assaulting “someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act”.
He was previously arrested in Oslo on August 4 after allegedly attacking his former girlfriend, and was charged with bodily harm and damage to her apartment.
Norwegian media reported that police discovered a knife stuck into one of the bedroom walls.
Marius was again detained the following month for violating a restraining order.
It’s been reported the latest arrest follows fresh information in an ongoing investigation, and that he was located in a car with the alleged victim from the August incident.
Following his arrest in September, Norwegian publication Aftenposten reported that Marius’ access to his mother and stepfather’s royal Skaugum residence was revoked.
While he was raised by Mette-Marit and her second husband alongside his step-siblings, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20 and Prince Sverre Magnus, 18, Marius has no official public role.
Police are yet to decide whether he will be remanded in custody, according to the AFP.
