King Charles and Queen Camilla marked the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death by attending a church service as Meghan markle appeared to take a dig at the royal family at an event hosted by Oprah Winfrey in California.
The royal couple smiled as they were photographed arriving at Crathie Kirk near Balmoral, where the late monarch used to worship, for a Sunday morning service.
Queen Elizabeth died peacefully at Balmoral at the age of 96 on September 8, 2022.
The Archbishop of Canterbury marked the Queen’s death with a statement after delivering the sermon at her funeral.
The Sun reports, the Rt Rev Justin Welby said: “Today we remember the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and mark the second anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Charles III.
“As we pray for the royal family today, we give thanks for Queen Elizabeth’s life of faith and devotion.
“We continue to pray for the King in his steadfast service to our nation.”
It comes as a royal source cited by The Sun said Charles’ cancer fight is “heading in a positive trajectory”, ahead of their trip to Australia and Samoa in October.
Charles underwent surgery after being diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle spent the eve of the anniversary of the Queen’s death at an Oprah Winfrey book club session.
The Duchess of Sussex joined a roster of “light-filled speakers” for the evening event at Goodmothers bookstore in Summerland, about a 10 minute drive from Montecito where she lives with Prince Harry and their children Archie and Lilibet.
Also on the bill were author Shaka Senghor, astrology and psychology author Dr Jennifer Freed, and author and psychic medium Laura Lynne Jackson, both of whom posted about the event and Meghan on their Instagram stories.
But it was the appearance of the royal that garnered the most attention.
Dressed in a belted black summer pantsuit, Meghan, 43, addressed the crowd at the event as part of the bookstore’s opening weekend.
The content of Meghan’s speech is not known and it seems that Harry skipped the event.
Godmothers’ co-owner, literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, had ensured that Meghan’s children’s book The Bench was prominently on display in the store, on the ‘hometown heroes’ shelf, which includes books by local authors. Also behind her, Harry’s memoir Spare.
Walsh said, “This is our local authors shelf when you first walk in,’ she said of the display. I want it to be when you first walk in so that authors who are local to the area know that this is their hometown bookstore.
“And we celebrate our hometown authors as if they were our hometown heroes, because to us they are.”
Controversially, Winfrey’s sit-down interview with Harry and Meghan in 2021 fanned the flames of the royals’ feud with Harry’s dad King Charles and other senior royals including his brother Prince William.
Meghan told the US talk show host she “couldn’t be left alone” and “didn’t want to be alive anymore”.
The couple also alleged that certain members of the royal family had speculated about Prince Archie’s skin colour.
Harry’s explosive memoir Spare also saw his relation ship with William take another sour turn after the duke launched vile allegations against his brothers.
Tensions may now be reignited as a paperback version of the sensational book is set to hit shelves in October.
Royal experts claimed its release could “dredge everything up again” and the “timing couldn’t be worse”.
Spare was originally published in 2023 and launched attacks on the royal family.
Harry cruelly alleged William knocked him to the floor and ripped his necklace after heated words about Meghan.
And, during interviews to garner more publicity, the duke unleashed a litany of more digs at his now estranged family.
