Matthew McConaughey has been praised for his sweet gesture to the Princess of Wales during her arrival at Wimbledon over the weekend.
After a video was posted online of Kate and Prince William arriving in the Royal Box for the Men’s Singles Final, eagle-eyed fans spotted the Oscar winner jumping up from his seat to give them a standing ovation.
The royal couple’s two eldest children, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, joined them to watch the match between Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner on Sunday.
McConaughey’s act sparked praise among royal watchers, who described him as a “lovely southern gentleman”.

“Real class,” one wrote in a comment under the clip.
Another person added: “Matthew has always been a class act.”
The Wales’ and McConaughey were joined by other high-profile figures including Nicole Kidman, Paul Mescal and Anna Wintour in the exclusive Royal Box. Aussie tennis (and TV) royalty Lleyton and Bec Hewitt were also spotted sitting behind Kate and Charlotte.
Kate, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, also received a standing ovation when she attended the Women’s Singles Final the day before, which saw Poland’s Iga Swiatek trump US player Amanda Anisimova.

It follows a busy few weeks for the princess, who joined the King, Queen and William in hosting the French president and his wife for a state visit at Windsor Castle last week, which included a lavish state banquet.
She also joined other senior royals for the Trooping the Colour parade and Order of the Garter service last month.
Back in January, Kate announced she was in remission from cancer, which she had first publicly disclosed last March.
She then released an emotional video message in September, featuring personal footage of herself with William and their three children, which explained the challenges they’d all been privately battling – but also revealed she had completed her treatment.
