Kate Middleton ‘struggled with cancer treatment initially’

The Princess of Wales has reportedly “turned a corner” in her cancer battle, but sad new details have surfaced about her early troubles.

Palace issues rare Princess Kate update amid cancer treatment

The Princess of Wales reportedly “struggled” with her cancer treatment “initially”, but has now “turned a corner”.

In January, Kensington Palace revealed that Kate would be undergoing abdominal surgery and taking a break from work as she recovered. Two months later, and amid frenzied speculation about her welfare during her public hiatus, Kate announced in an emotional video that cancer had been found during the operation, and that she had been undergoing “preventive chemotherapy” across an “incredibly tough couple of months”.

There has been almost no information about her condition since, although it was recently reported that she was improving.

Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, Katie Nicholl, has now shed new light on Kate’s health, telling The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show that she had encountered difficulties during the early stages of her cancer journey.

“I’ve been told by sources very close to the Princess of Wales that she had struggled with the treatment initially,” she told The Sun’s Royal Editor, Matt Wilkinson.

“It’s preventive chemotherapy, it’s not a pleasant thing.

“No one wants to have to have this, you know, off the back of major surgery, a pretty long recovery period, and then she has to go through the treatment.

“I think it was a struggle initially and I was very, very relieved to hear from actually more than one source that she has recently turned a corner.”

Nicholl also refuted recent reports that Kate may not return to work “in the same capacity again”, insisting that it was “not the case”.

“Everything I hear is that she will be back to work.” she said.

“She’s coming back 100 per cent to pick up as Princess of Wales and do the great work she was doing before.

“It will just be in her time and she’s ready and crucially when she gets the sign off from her medical team.”

It was initially hoped that Kate may make a return to the public eye with a balcony appearance at this weekend’s high-profile Trooping the Colour parade in London, but that’s now appearing less likely.

She issued a rare message to the Irish Guards over the weekend, apologising for her absence at their Trooping rehearsal on Saturday. Kate is the honorary Colonel of the Guard, and would traditionally partake in the Colonel’s Review of the regiment ahead of the big event.

“Please pass my apologies to the whole Regiment, however I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon,” she wrote in a personal statement.

“Please send my very best wishes and good luck to all involved. Colonel Catherine.”
