Instagram makes bold move on Kate Middleton’s edited family photo

Instagram has weighed in on Kate Middleton’s photo editing scandal after she admitted to altering a family photo.

Theory new Kate Middleton photo is eight years old goes viral

Instagram added an “altered photo” warning to Kate Middleton’s Mother’s Day photo with her three kids after she admitted to editing the picture.

“Altered photo/video,” read the message in red under the now-viral snap.

“The same altered photo was reviewed by independent fact-checkers in another post.”

Users who click the message will be given more details about the warning, reports Page Six.

The same altered photo was reviewed in another post by fact-checkers,” it read.

“There may be small differences. Independent fact-checkers say the photo or image has been edited in a way that could mislead people, but not because it was shown out of context.”

Instagram’s new warning message comes nearly a week after the Princess of Wales, 42, shared the photo with her and Prince William’s children — Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, amid conspiracy theories about Middleton’s whereabouts.

Shortly after, several eagle-eyed fans noticed that the image was heavily edited.

Subsequently, several photo agencies even released a “kill notice” message notification regarding the family snap.

“At closer inspection it appears that the source has manipulated the image,” a message from the Associated Press (AP) Reuters read.

After facing backlash for the picture, Middleton released an apology, revealing that she was the one behind the editing.

“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused,” she tweeted from the official account she shares with her husband.

“I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”

Kensington Palace has refused to release the unedited version of the picture — despite the royal’s blunder.

Middleton was admitted to the hospital in January for abdominal surgery.

Since she was released, she has not been publicly seen — except for grainy photos that have been released of the princess riding in the car.

Middleton is set to make her first public appearance in June at the Trooping the Colour parade, which celebrates the official birthday of King Charles III.
