Fuming’: Meghan in new race feud amid Endgame fallout

Omid Scobie’s Endgame ignited a new rift as two more royal family members were accused of ‘insulting’ Ms Markle with ‘casual bigotry’.

Meghan Markle’s former mentor is “fuming” after Omid Scobie’s Endgame accused her of being “casually bigoted” and embroiling the late Queen Elizabeth into the royal racism row.

Sophie of Wessex, who took Meghan under her wing at the suggestion of the Queen, is furious after becoming the third member of the royal family “dragged” into the race row amid claims she did little to support the Duchess.

The Queen, meanwhile, “insulted” Ms Markle by offering the help of a black equerry, Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, in a move that “stood out like a sore thumb”, Scobie wrote.

It comes as Ms Markle, a staunch feminist, herself faces accusations of perpetuating a gender pay gap after the Archewell Foundation’s tax filings revealed its female co-executive director earned less than half that of her male counterpart.

Archewell insiders attempted to minimise the loss of charitable donations in the past year, with a source telling The Daily Beast the “numbers reflect a healthy foundation” seeking “intentional, paced growth”, with more than USD $11 million ($A 16.7m) remaining in the bank.

As the Archewell Foundation’s support sunk to new lows in the past year, so too did Ms Markle’s relations with her in-laws after her unofficial biographer accused the then-Countess of Wessex of giving her the cold shoulder after she married Prince Harry.

Sophie, a former PR pro who married Prince Edward, became Ms Markle’s mentor on how to adjust from growing up in a middle-class family into a new life as a royal.

Friends of Sophie, who is now the Duchess of Edinburgh, told The Sun she was “fuming” at Scobie writing she was “tin-eared” at best, and casually bigoted at worst”, and that claims she ignored Ms Markle were “blatantly untrue”.

Sophie went out of her way to befriend Ms Markle in the early months of their marriage with tea at her Surrey home, Bagshot Park.

“It was just the two of them and they talked for hours,” said a senior Royal source. “Meghan had so many questions and Sophie, who knows what it’s like navigating your way through the early days of transition from a commoner to a royal, gave freely of her advice.

“She was quite surprised when that was the last she heard from Meghan. As she noted, it would’ve been nice to receive a return invitation to Frogmore Cottage.

According to Scobie’s Endgame, however, when Ms Markle was leaving a church service in Windsor she was subsequently ignored by Sophie, who became the focus of a negative Endgame anecdote.

In an interview about her reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan’s infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, Scobie wrote Sophie said “there’s no reason why you should know who she (Oprah) is. Certainly not in this country, anyway”.

Scobie commented that the remarks could be seen as evidence the British monarchy is an “intolerant organisation steeped in bigotry and privilege”.

“Whether it was a ‘joke’ (as a source close to Edward and Sophie later claimed it was) or not, the comments about the world’s most successful black woman and one of the biggest faces in entertainment made them seem stuffy or tin-eared at best, and casually bigoted at worst,” Scobie wrote.

It was a blow to the Duchess of Edinburgh, who considered herself an ally to Ms Markle after welcoming her into the royal family after the marriage to Prince Harry.

“Sophie found Meghan likeable and engaging and told her that she could call her any time when she needed advice about dealing with some of the trickier royals,” the royal source said.
