Fergie’s shock move, daughters’ no-show amid Andrew scandal
The ex-wife of Prince Andrew has made a huge shift and her daughters have pulled out of a major event, as calls mount for the royal to be booted out of his lavish Windsor mansion.
Sarah Ferguson has dropped her royal title from her social media handle amid the ever-growing scandal engulfing her ex-husband, Prince Andrew.
Ms Ferguson has removed references to her Duchess of York title and has changed her X handle from “@SarahTheDuchess” to “@sarahMFergie15.”
It comes after bombshell emails between Fergie and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein were revealed by the Mail on Sunday, where she described the pedophile as a “supreme friend” after his release from prison.
In another email exchange, leaked to the Mail on Sunday, Epstein claimed that Ms Ferguson visited him in New York with her daughters after his prison release.
Prince Andrew has given up his royal title of Duke Of York and his membership with the Order of the Garter under pressure from King Charles III, following further revelations about his ties to Epstein.
Amid the scandals engulfing both their parents, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were conspicuously absent from a glittering ball attended by London’s elite.
The royal sisters are understood to have been on the guest list for the British Museum’s inaugural Pink Ball, which aims to rival New York’s Met Gala on the weekend.
However, they did not turn up at the event.
As the scandal grows following the publication of Virginia Giuffre’s explosive memoir, calls are growing in Westminster for Prince Andrew to be booted from his Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor after it was revealed he has not paid rent in years.
Prince William and Princess Catherine, who are said to despise Andrew, will likely take the same stance as King Charles in his attempts to remove Andrew from the Royal Lodge estate, a royal expert said.
Phil Dampier told The Sun that William and Catherine, who live a short distance away with their three children at Adelaide Cottage, are most likely worried about Andrew bringing chaos to their door.
“We all saw with our own eyes the reaction that William had to Andrew when he tried to talk to him after the Duchess of Kent’s funeral, and it was obvious that he didn’t have any time for him,” he said.
“I think behind the scenes, he would like to take a much firmer line with his uncle, and, feels that he’s doing untold damage to the monarchy and would very much like this whole mess to be cleared up, one way or the other, and a real line to be drawn under it before he becomes king.
“I don’t think he wants to be living within a couple of miles of someone who’s constantly getting… I mean, today, I think there are demonstrators down there.
“There are actually protesters outside the house with megaphones, shouting that Andrew should leave his home.
“It’s all turning into a bit of a circus, and I’m sure William would just like to see the back of it to be honest.”
Despite the rising calls to remove Prince Andrew from his royal residence it has long been said that he could not be removed by legal force until 2078.
The Times reported that Andrew has not paid rent on Royal Lodge, a 30-room property, for two decades.
A group of British MPs have also written to PM Sir Keir Starmer calling for the government to formally strip Andrew of his titles, while others are preparing a bill to put before the Commons.
Prince Andrew, who reached a financial settlement with Ms Giuffre in 2022, has always vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
