‘Childlike’ Prince William ‘prone to tantrums’ with Kate: palace expert

Royal super mum Kate Middleton has her hands full with three kids but one palace expert says she has a fourth child: Prince William, known for his hissy fits.

Behind Prince William’s calm composure is a fierce temper, just like his son Prince Louis, which can result in “terrific rows” with his wife, the Princess of Wales, says a former staffer who previously worked at Kensington Palace.

“Kate treats him [William] like the fourth child because he’s prone to tantrums,” author Tom Quinn said the former employee told him.

The insider is understood to have told him Catherine has honed an effective strategy to ensure their arguments don’t escalate.

“They do have rows. It’s not a perfect marriage. They have terrific rows,” the author told the British Daily Mirror newspaper.

“But, where some couples have a row and throw heavy vases at each other, William and Kate throw cushions at each other. It’s always kept under control.”

Mr Quinn, who wrote Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family, claimed that a lot of William and Kate’s success as a married couple is down to the late Queen’s legacy of peacekeeping and her age-old motto which she taught the Royal Family: “Never complain, never explain.”

Queen Elizabeth understood how important it was to maintain a dignified silence during difficult times, Mr Quinn said.

“Because William adopts the manners and ways of behaving of his grandmother and Kate is very good at not complaining, both of them have stuck to the thing that made Queen Elizabeth II such a remarkable monarch,” he said.

“They very rarely complain and when they do it’s always in measured terms.”

In Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, he alleges that his brother William grabbed him by the collar, ripped his necklace, and knocked him to the floor where he landed on a dog bowl which shattered, leaving him with “scrapes and bruises.”

William and Kate are very popular senior royals within the British public although a recent Ipsos survey found that Kate has recently leapfrogged her husband in the popularity stakes becoming the preferred royal with 38 per cent of people liking her followed by the heir to the throne who polled 34 per cent.

In the survey, 62 per cent of respondents also said they were satisfied with William’s current role as the Prince of Wales.

The survey of around 4000 people also indicated that 49 per cent of the British public believe Charles is doing a good job as the country’s new King.

Among the least popular royals were Prince Andrew at 4 per cent and his two daughters Princess Beatrice and Eugenie who were both at seven per cent.
